If you're asking this because you have a physical PlayStation, there's a chance you also have a pile of CDs/DVDs around, and if you do--you need to play Monster Rancher 2. The game spawns the monsters you will train and battle with by reading discs you put into your console. You haven't lived until you've scoured the house for every disc you could get your hands on, your mom's awful Christmas albums, your grandpa's boring old movies, it was ALL treasure when Monster Rancher 2 came out. Sitting on the floor just going through the giant stack making monster after monster, taking note of all the cool ones. (Getting the main city music burned into your head.)
And when you were finally done, then you could fuse the monsters you generated together for further experimentation in finding the perfect partner!

On your point about thinking it's unfair for women to pre-judge men:
    https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/childsexualabuse/fastfact.html
    One in FOUR.
I know it doesn't break down the abusers by gender but I'm sure you have an idea. Take some time and imagine the overwhelming consequences of a statistic like this on us, our minds, our survival instincts.

    On bigotry:
Bigotry involves a power imbalance. If someone treats you unfairly based on things other than the content of your character, but they have no power over you, that sucks but it isn't bigotry. You might want to argue that women do have power over men, they can withhold dating and intimacy or something but like... Men can often withhold housing and wages.

    Or physical safety.

Also if you're not averse to emulators, I will always zealously recommend Azure Dreams GBC to anyone. This game is a monster taming roguelike where time doesn't pass when it's your turn if you don't do anything so you can put it down for as long as you like. Unlike Realm Grinder, it doesn't reward you for your idle time but it's a much more satisfying game overall and I just want more people to know about it and play it ^_^

I was just reading an article about this.
    https://www.vg247.com/pokemon-tv-shutting-down-anime-series-streaming-services

no endorsement of this site, I just agree with this quote:
"I cannot begin to explain how baffling it is that the Pokemon anime is distributed across streaming services. It's easy enough to watch the first season, it's on Netflix. After that you'll need to move over to Prime Video for season two, though this is under Prime Video Channels, which typically charge an extra fee. Through that, and some seasons that are just outright available on the service, you could technically watch up to season 22 on Prime, then switch back to Netflix for season 23 through 25. Otherwise, you'll have to bounce between Hulu, the Roku Channel, Tubi, Freevee, and… Hoopla? Yeah, I'll pass thanks."

I know where you CAN watch all of the Pokémon anime in one place, and completely for free...

I get together with my friends and we build crafts together. Some do Gunpla, some Lego, some build tabletop terrain. (I personally build LBX.) This doesn't require a third place, we just get together at one of our places, just need a big cleared-off table. Really nice way to hang out with friends. But it does require lining up schedules and it can be heavy on the budget.

Third places really died over time. Literally every place I used to go hang out has closed. I use MMOs as my third place now. If you can find a guild that matches your playstyle and schedule, I'd join up and get active in events. I'm a part of a guild in GW2 that has events 4 days a week and it really helps me get in that much needed social time when I can't see my IRL friends or partner.

When content creators made videos informing the community about the above issue, they were manually copyright struck on YouTube by JMR. Then anybody who spoke up about how unfair all this was was blocked by their official account on Twitter. This is a channel with leadership that will casually mistreat fans and silence all criticism with an iron fist.

I love it still, but you should be aware.

You can't go wrong with Living Felt for a source of quality wool. I also use an Etsy shop I really like, but they're taking a break for the holidays right now and the page is inactive. For keeping lines straight, my advice is that you can attach felt sheets to your felt creations just the same as wool. So you could draw whatever shape you like on felt, cut it out, and then felt it into your creations. Just make sure it's the softer kind of felt because the hard kind could put too much stress on your needles.

I'm actually working on a needlefelting course, to sell for side income of my own, though that's on pause for the holidays. I have a pretty unique method! If it's allowed to be posted around here, I will at some point, so feel free to keep a look out!

Been collecting Beyblades forever, never plan to stop. Super informal, I open most of them, I battle them. Takara Tomy makes the (way) better quality product but my biggest nostalgia factor is going hunting in stores which means buying the Hasbro versions in stores. Most of my collection was obtained this way, hunting in real life, though things have started to shift post-covid. I wonder if this happened to other toy collectors? If you used to be all about in-person hunting, did the pause in being able to do that cause you to change your stance?

Also, Hasbro has just been dropping the ball as a company, trying to kill D&D, ripping off the Magic players, making just awfully painted, gimmick-less versions of Beyblades and trying to pass them off to us... ugh.

Well I can tell you what happens in that situation because it happened to me! Cut off from the others, I healed at the bonfire and respawned the goblins outside who we had killed multiple times. They are the same creatures, trapped in the same looping nightmare world we are, so one of them recognized me. They were also designed for 1 person to be able to defeat, even if scaled up a bit. I used a Thorn Whip to grab the one that screamed and ended up rolling an intimidation check to get him to stand down. After killing the others, I went back to the cowering goblin and offered him the chance to join me in exchange for power. Seeing the remains of his friends, he agreed.

This is the beginning of a sort of legendary story in my friend group of my son, Four the Goblin. He's dead now and his soul lives in a ring on my finger, occasionally screaming into my mind. One of my own party members killed him and though we never finished that game because work is a bitch and life is chaotic, I fully intend to finish the elegant backstabbing I have planned for said party member, should we ever pick those characters up again.

As for stealing each other's possessions, I think we all just sort of agreed that no one would try to take the other's souls/exp. No other possessions dropped upon death.

I have never DMed, so I'm only relaying my experience as a player, but I'd like to share something our group's DM does with his D&D games. We play by "Souls rules". When you die, you drop all of your current level's accumulated EXP where you died, which he marks on the map. If you can make it back there, you get it back. If you die again before you get it back, they're gone forever.

He has designated safe "bonfire" places on his maps. If you die, you go back there at 1hp, and you can full heal there--at the cost of respawning all the enemies in the area. If one person dies in a boss fight and they want to rejoin the fray, it won't be easy because if they want to heal up and get spells and resources back, they'll have to spawn a bunch of enemies between them and wherever the party is. That could make it difficult to reach them, and also, make it difficult for the party to get back to the bonfire if they need to do so! I'm pretty sure that using the bonfire also makes all the enemies stronger each time but it's been a while since I played and I was on the outside looking in, would be better if our actual DM was explaining this, but you're stuck with me!

The thing I like about this ruleset is that death is not the end of your character, and it isn't so much a thing to fear as it is a strategic challenge.

In my opinion, the way to find Discords/groups where the chat is civil is to look for "family friendly" in their description. The only public game I really play is GW2, but there's a distinctly different tone in the squad chat/guild chat/Discord of the "family friendly" guild we are allied with and that of my own guild. You're not even allowed to curse in their squad and a lot of us joke that "Oh no, we'll have to be on our best behavior we're running with ____ guild lol"

Long story short, fully open public gaming groups will probably be toxic. But join a specific community, turn off your open world chat and only have your guild/party/whispers and you'll be fine. A lot of gamers are parents who play with their kids, and they build and enforce polite communities. At least in GW2.

I'm not actually using this for anything at the moment, just experimenting, but I found ChatGPT is great at coming up with settings and creatures for fantasy worlds. It's all way too much to copy/paste here, but I can explain my process.

I gave it an existing (as in, there's established lore about it) mythical creature and said "Can you give me some possible habitats this creature could live in?" It gave me a list. I then said, "I like X and Y of the options on that list, describe to me what a habitat would be like if those two ideas were merged into one place." It did so beautifully. Then I said "Okay, please give me 10 other magical creatures who would act as the original creature's loyal subordinates and would also thrive in the habitat we just developed. Explain what their duty to the original creature is." It also did that beautifully. Saved all of that and if I ever have time to pursue gamedev, I already have a good foundation for my first area.

If your kid is watching on a phone or tablet I know there is an app that will automatically skip a YouTube ad the moment the skip button becomes available, at least there is on Android, I don't know anything about iOS. That can thwart those extra long ads. I think you can even set the app to mute your phone when the ad is on as well, but that's a paid feature and I didn't try it. I don't know if there is an equivalent on PC, though on PC you're probably just using an adblocker.

Have you played Neverwinter Nights? I don't have every NPC and interaction memorized but I don't think there's a lot of sexualization of anybody there. There may be some skimpiness with the drow in the 2nd expansion so maybe avoid that one? There is also a brothel in chapter 1 of the base game but everything involving it is optional. I'm trying to remember on the fly and there's a lot of content, so sorry if I'm forgetting anything major, but it's really not a very sexualized game at all. It's also a great classic, one of my favorites.
