I think Grapple Dogs is the perfect sweet spot of easy to learn but with a high ceiling. The early levels do a great job of teaching the basic mechanics and the levels that follow build on and twist what you’ve learned, and it’s also extremely forgiving with plenty of checkpoints and few penalties. The physics are also very satisfying and you can reach a Sonic-like flow state that feels very rewarding. It also has a great sense of humor that made me laugh out loud several times. Grapple Dogs is the sequel to Grapple Dog, but it might be a better place to start because they made a lot of quality of life improvements over the first game, and it might even be a little easier too.

Don’t sleep on Lower Decks just because it’s a comedy or because it’s animated. It understands the tone of Trek and the sense of optimism and comes closest of the newer shows to “getting it” in my opinion. Your mileage may vary with the way it pokes fun at Trek as well, but I think it’s clearly done with nothing but aftection, it’s not looking to roast the classics, it it does recognize the silliness of some of it

I’m gonna push back a little bit on “100% pristine lighting”. The screen is extremely high contrast, and highly reflective. Now, I spend the majority of my life in as dim a light as possible, so perhaps I am more used to these conditions than most, but I find that all I really need to play in lower light is to adjust the angle of my screen. Sure, there comes a point where it’s just too dark to play without a book light (the maker of Art& has a 3D printable grip that includes a place to clip a book light, makes very a very comfy experience) but I’ve played quite a bit in significantly less than 100% pristine lighting.

I mean, Trump is a convicted felon who tried to over throw the government. In any other election in our nations history it wouldn’t even be a contest. Why wouldn’t they assume Biden could beat him again? Im a progressive and have generally been pretty happy with Biden, he’s trailing behind Trump because of self-inflicted wounds, not because Trump has a vision for the country that people are resonating with. I think Biden stepping down revitalizes with campaign against Trump.

I think ultimately, for those that consider Gaza the biggest factor in how or if they vote then you can only make that decision from a perspective of harm reduction. You have three choices: Trump, Biden, no-vote/third party. While “no-vote/third party” might align most with what these voters consider the moral position, it is not the choice that will reduce the most harm, because one of those two guys is gonna be The Guy whether you vote or not. To not vote essentially gives up having a say in the matter at all. It might feel pretty good if Trump ends up losing anyway, but if Trump wins? Because Trump is also, explicitly, not the choice that will reduce the most harm. He has made clear his position on Gaza and Israel and it is much more dire for the Palestinians. Ultimately, if you support the Palestinians then it is imperative that Trump be kept out of office at all costs, and that might mean holding your nose for Biden as it is the best and only way to stop Trump. And believe me I hate that choice. I hate our First Past the Post system guarantees we only have a binary choice. But, I’ve examined the options, and if I want to do the least amount of harm the choice is clear.

This show seems like the opposite. The characters don't seem interesting, meaningful or important at all. The aliens don't seem to be interesting people. Which is why, to me, diversity feels like an excuse to cover bad writing. In other words, it's using diversity as a marketing tactic to get viewers to watch. To me that feels manipulative towards the people it's supposed to support. Basically the opposite of respectful diversity.

You had me up until here. Saying that the characters don’t feel interesting, meaningful, or important is a valid criticism. But I fail to see what that has to do with diversity. Would the character some how be more interesting, meaningful, or important if they were played by an actor of a different race?

Furthermore, this series takes place a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. What does “respectful representation” mean in a world where Earth, and all of cultural baggage that comes with it, does not exist? I do not need Star Wars to explain to me why a character is black or Asian or white, I just accept that those races exist the same way I accept that Humans exist in this world at all, or that Wookiees exist. That is why your criticism is baffling to me. It would seem to me that the most responsible way to do representation in a fantasy sci-fi world like Star Wars is to do exactly what they are doing: hire a diverse cast and move past it.
