Since the pandemic, and now that I work from home 100% of the time, I find that I shower every other day, usually in the evening. I'm not a morning person so I prefer to sleep in and shower/bathe before bed as a way of unwinding.

I haven't scientifically researched any of this so my apologies if I'm off base but I once read that you should aim to have at least one green thing in a smoothie to make it healthier. As you said, a lot of fruits gives you a lot of sugar. Replacing a fruit with kale or avocado or something like that can give you nutrients while lessening the total amount of sugar per smoothie.

It's not bad! Maybe I'm wrong about it being half a cup of milk? I started off by following a recipe and measuring it but now I just eyeball it.

I’m just getting into smoothies so my go to recipe is pretty basic at the moment. 2 bananas, 1 avocado, 1 tsp peanut butter, 1/2 cup milk, ice cubes

Absolutely. I definitely advocate getting checked out by medical professionals and seeing if there are any physiological causes. Explore those options to make sure you’re doing everything you can.

However, if all of the physical options are exhausted (pun intended), I do believe that looking at emotions could make a big difference. As you said, depression or other suppressed emotions can cause fatigue. I’m not advocating for “mind over matter” in the sense of powering through the fatigue. You should do the emotional work to understand what you’re really feeling, why you’re feeling it, and why you’re suppressing it.

And you’re correct - I technically was diagnosed with post-viral chronic fatigue syndrome but it mostly ends up being referred to as CFS/ME, at least in my experience.

I've been recovering from chronic fatigue syndrome for the past 4.5 years. It was really bad at the beginning, though I wasn't bedridden as I've read some people are. I used to love being active and working out. When I first got sick I had to take a nap after taking a 10 minute shower. I couldn't work and had to take medical leave for 2 months.

Over the past few years I've slowly gained some of my life back, though I still have progress to make. I can currently do a 30-45 minute workout 4 days a week. I also work from home 5 days a week.

What helped me was realizing that there's (often) a very strong mind-body connection when it comes to fatigue. I originally got CFS due to getting mono. As time went on, my brain stayed in fight or flight mode and learned that fatigue is a way of retreating from what it perceived to be danger.

Now, when I feel fatigue, I ask myself what emotions am I trying to cover up or what am I scared of. More often than not the fatigue goes away.

Just wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone :) Happy to answer questions if anyone has any.

Solo traveling is great! I grew up very introverted and sheltered due to health problems throughout my childhood. I had a bit of an “awakening” in my early 20s and randomly booked a flight to Iceland. I had an incredible time! I stayed at a hostel and made some friends that I still talk to to this day. If the hostel vibe sounds interesting, I’d definitely recommend it while traveling solo. Some even have single rooms so that you don’t need to share the room with a stranger but you can still use the common areas.

I agree - people are usually very friendly and accommodating when you tell them you’re there alone. I would ask waiters or bartenders for tips on where to go, especially if I wanted to check out some of the more local spots.

Some cities have free donation based walking tours. I also found those to be a good way of making friends. We’d talk, exchange numbers, and then meet up later in the trip to explore some more.

Overall, I highly recommend solo traveling for anyone considering it. It taught me so much about myself and I had amazing experiences.

It’s not their best work but it has been edited and remastered in the studio so it might be a bit more accessible for someone who isn’t used to the sound of live tapes. Often the stuff you’ll find on archive is of questionable sound quality.

I love my Cultiver linen bed sheets. I was worried that linen would be too rough for extended use. However, these sheets are very soft and don’t bother me at all.

I'm sorry, chronic pain sucks. I'm currently recovering from chronic fatigue syndrome. Not exactly the same but related.

Have you read any work by John Sarno or other mind-body teachers? I've found that their approach is helping me a ton. I went from only being able to walk 10 minutes a day to walking 30 minutes a day and lifting weights, albeit only 12.5 lbs at the moment.

I highly suggest checking him out if you haven't already. Here's an article from the NYTimes about him and chronic pain.

I only take it off when I'm expecting an important call or message. I've found that it really helps me focus and not be yanked around by notifications.

I'm thinking we could have a game as a top level comment and then sub-comments could be game IDs or people interested in connecting? I'll start off with this format but I'm open to suggestions.

(Also, this is my first post on Tildes. Hopefully it aligns with the rules/community.)

I'm also new to Tildes so I'm still figuring the community out. However, I think that people understand that, due to the nature of groups and tags, there will be posts in groups that they might not be interested in. I've also noticed that it helps spread knowledge by putting certain subjects on the radar.

That's all to say, if you want to post something, do it! As someone recovering from ME/CFS I'd participate in that thread :)

In the US a lot of therapists now accept video and phone call appointments. I'm not sure where in Europe you are but it might be an option.

It might help to try and not think of therapy as something that's "bad" but more as getting support from someone who is trained to listen and give advice. My view is that humans are social creatures but a lot of us (myself included) have ingrained the mentality of "I should be strong enough to do this on my own." Often that's not the case. That's not to say that we're weak or that we should be able to do it on our own but can't. It's just to say that we should try and rely more on our support network, one part of which could be a therapist.
