The thing is, I still would not say Denuvo is winning against piracy.Denuvo is expensive and only a handful of publishers are able to keep up the Denuvo license before the licence costs outweigh the profit, and the game gets pirated after the license is gone.
the other 99% of games still get pirated.. and those websites are updated with new cracked games on a daily basis. (Albeit not AAA games that released a week ago)
Sure, Denuvo is the market leader in this, but I would say the few publishers that are willing to pay for it are not representative of the gaming industry, and the crack status of these few games are certainly not representative of what is going on in the piracy world.

When did this happen?Last time I checked, most recent big title games are still getting cracked.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is a good example.Steam is just delivering good service, and people that used to pirate games now just buy them.
I used to pirate games an awful lot. (Heck, I still do sometimes)But now I buy games on steam without even playing them, purely because I used to play them a long time ago. Steam has made it so easy to have your games in 1 single place which is easy to manage, with frequent sales etc.

It is also the reason I started looking for a new job, with one of my requirements being that the company has to be foreign. And flexibility regarding working from home. lol -

I work in Tokyo, and working culture is hell.Everything except work (Food, games, anime etc.) balances it out..sometimes.

1.1 did indeed contain new story, but it also added more sub quests (with added difficulty as a lot of people asked for apparently) and a lot of Quality of Life changes.
The story switched up and gave us control of a new character instead of the usual main character and the writing for this 1.1 story was the best so far.
For me personally, ZZZ matches my lifestyle a lot better than Star Rail. (I used to play Star Rail but dropped it as I noticed it required too much time investment than I could afford, with work and wife being priorities)
ZZZ allows me to do dailies in less than 5 mins, and if I have 10 minutes to spare instead I am able to extend that into a short burst of weeklies. Also, the music, animation, style and the urban settings suits me much better as I keep going back to it.
Ultimately, the thing that keeps me playing is the huge potential this game has.
They proved with the 1.1 patch that the game they put out is long but finished and keeps getting polished while listening to the players. I honestly can't wait for future updates as they just seem FUN!
Also, a new character gets released today! -

Version 1.1 is out, and there is more content now.
I've been playing since release and gobbled up the content at a rapid pace as I was playing pretty much every day. The days where I don't feel like sitting in front of my PC, I just do the dailies on my phone. (Dailies are done super fast)
I was done all the story quest and side quests, so for me it was simply logging in and doing dailies while grinding for small upgrades and saving up for future gachas.1.1 was introduced last week and I cannot believe how much the devs listened to the community feedback.
A lot of QoL improvements have been made and the new content is very promising as it shows that we are able to step into the shoes of other characters story-wise. (Whereas before it was just the main character you picked at the beginning)I am still going through all the new quests and honestly cannot wait for any future updates.
Also still holding on to my in-game currency as they are drip-feeding us new characters by giving up sneakpeeks on social media, and I have seen some characters I really want. -

It's so pleasant to look at, gameplay is smooth, animation is amazing, and the story itself is fun. (Post-apocalyptic urban fantasy setting, where all modern electronics are gone and everyone has gone back to cassetes, LP's etc. )
I just love the general ambience, with the chill hip-hop playing in the background, while you go grab a coffee to replenish your energy, go to the music store to shop for LP's (which are equipment), or spend time in the arcade which actually has very fun mini-games.But it's very much a skill game and has some Kingdom Hearts similarities in terms of gameplay.
It's still very new and came out a month ago, so if anyone is looking for a new game!

Your comment just made me homesick and remember my mom's cooking. It's difficult to get any Turkish food here, and I miss Sucuk the most.
So I'd like to add "Sucuk" (dry, spicy and fermented sausage), "Mantı" (dumplings in garlic yogurt sauce), and "Simit" (sesame seed-coated bread that looks like a bagel but tastes totally different) to this list.
I agree with you that what you explained is indeed the goal for companies is to protect the first few months, however I would say that cracking/pirating a game in the first few months is not the goal for pirates.
Once a game gets their Denuvo removed and it gets cracked/pirated afterwards, pirates would chalk that up as a win. Usually because in these times people are not in a hurry to play games as people usually have a huge backlog.
All in all, I still do not think Denuvo is going to prevent/defeat piracy, but I do think that it defends the sales that companies are looking for as you mentioned.
