I liked them cause I was 12 and the dick and fart jokes, coupled with the weird undead dark carnival shit, appealed to my loner adolescent brain. The moral crusader's shook their fists at them and tried to tie them to same society "destroying" panic as heavy metal which probably helped their appeal I'm my eyes.

I hear you. I don't think that he believes he's putting out low quality/misleading content though. I think that, from his perspective, he put in enough due diligence to get to the root of the product. (At least for the example given) His point being that the cooler was a wildly overpriced solution, not worthy of it's price tag. He used flawed data to come to that decision. His response to that is, I agree, a meely mouthed
"Well that doesn't change our opinion" which is pretty a dog shit rationalization.
So I ask myself, do I judged him based on his response to this incident or on his catalog of helpful content. From the things I have watched of his he has usually been a consumer focused review guy looking to help sift through all the computer marketing wank bullshit. His verdict on that cooler is pretty inline with this, and I appreciate him for doing this. For as long as I have watched him one of his main focuses has been "is this worth your money" I don't believe this situation casts any doubt on that overall mission.

I don't know, I feel like some of you have your pitchforks raised, but this GN review of LMG seems like a good thing and that LTT will wind up being better in the future. I think this is a solid jab to the face that LTG will take on the chin and will probably wind up being better for it. I think it's a good. GN put it out and I think it's good to call out bullshit where you see it and that LTG is probably going to take it seriously.
Seems to be just drama that has got everybody all riled up for no reason. Fair amount of pearl clutching like "can we ever trust Linus again?" "Should we ever have?" Nothing strikes me as purposely deceitful. If anything these things should happen every now and again to keep people accountable. The drama just comes off as way over blown

It's almost like the "just do 5 minutes" theory. It just opens the door to practice and gets the momentum flowing.

I am really beginning to believe that most of the befits of tech have been fleshed out to the point where there is just less new shit to come up with. People still expect big things every year from the tech world but the best they can come up with is rehashed older ideas with digital hypewords attached.
"Decentralized, paradigm, shifting, trustless, revolutionary digital AI currency solutions are here to.."
What, confuse the shit out of me ?
This all reminds me of back in the 90s when I had to buy all my music the was on cassettes, on CDs. Then, all my music on cd's needed to be mp3's. Then, I didn't even need to buy music I could just pay 10 bucks a month forever.
None of it has made my life listening to music much different. The only thing that really happened is the music container in my car has gotten smaller! Which, while nice to have the extras space is not really "paradigm shifting" enough for me anymore.

I don't have a lot of experience but I do know two people who are life coaches and based on these two people, who I know pretty well, I always just assumed it was a borderline scam.
They are nice people but there is definitely a, shall we say, over representation of qualifications. Knowing the intimate details of their lives makes me wonder what on earth they would have to offer people, other than an example of what not to do in life. I know that sounds harsh but believe me it is accurate.
Sometimes you just need an atta boy and and someone to commiserate with and I get that, but beyond being a paid friendly ear to call on, these people are not qualified academically or even aspirationally.

If I may be candid, I think you and I are around the same age and that story is one I would have definitely laughed a lot harder at 10/15 years ago. Maybe cause I was younger and a lot more on the "ho's be tripping, bro" part of my life. Having been through half a lifetime of experience now I tend to view things with a lot more nuance (hopefully) than when I was younger.
Anyway it definitely resonated with this fellow 40 year old.
    Cheers

It seems to me, at it's core, this strategy is basically a pump and dump.
Early VCs invest money create a hype juggernaut claiming everything under the sun, with the intended dubious strategy of "gaining market share" and cash out when these companies go public or achieve certain financial milestones.
Pump and dumps are illegal, these guys just hide under a few layers of obfuscation, plausible deniability, and pepper in some hyperbolic tech jargon.
Its the same old scams with a fresh coat of paint.

I listened to the Hekate episode. I found it humourous. Not laugh out loud funny but it kept me engaged and I listened to the whole thing. It's a wierd topic. On the one hand, the way you tell the story is funny and an interesting take on a taboo subject. On the other hand at the end I felt kinda icky. like I was taking pleasure in someone else's damaged view of what a relationship should be.
Perhaps it just hit a little close to home for me.
