The only thing reddit is useful for these days is search results with forced old.reddit and even then its getting less and less useful by the year. I already stopped commenting and lurked with RIF for the last year, but without that app I am completely done with the site. On the upside, it reminded me I had a tildes account!

Good luck! And don't let some of the middle books dissuade you from continuing. The pay off of the last few RJ books and the Brandon Sanderson trilogy is well worth getting through some of the more boring RJ books in the middle. (Though, I still love the books that others find to be the more "boring" of the series.) It's by far my most favorite novel and has been for more than 20 years. Brandon Sanderson's stormlight archive is a close second.

I don't really have a problem with this, but i've been a paying member for over half a decade so I guess I am bias. It would be like using a hacked client to bypass a "fremium" game's pay features. Sure, maybe those pay features aren't fair, but you have the choice to not play. There's a reason that whitelists exist on ad-blockers.. if you don't believe any services should be serving ads, then you should stop using services that rely on ad revenue. Especially when they have an affordable alternative to bypassing those ads.

Worst: My mom used to try and cook "healthy" pizza's when I was a kid, and while I appreciate she made the effort, she was a terrible cook. It always came out with the weirdest cardboardy texture, was defiled with spinach, and for some reason it always had the smell of dirty gym socks. Even thinking about it right now gives me a nauseous nostalgic feeling in my gut.

Best: I had a sous vide filet mignon while staying at a lodge up in North Carolina during a road trip a few weeks ago. It ruined steak for me. It wasn't even steak anymore, it was just a cloud of cow protein that fell apart before my teeth could meet. Perfectly cooked, perfectly seared, perfectly seasoned. I fear I shall never again taste steak so delectable before my demise.

Edit: I just now realized I kind of described food more than the experience, but i'll leave it here.

There's a reddit meme account called "This_Is_Why_Trump_Won" that blank posts whenever something like this is posted. It feels like a very fitting response to the article (especially the original topic log title) if this weren't Tildes. Outside of debating the validity/morality of the tactic, I think that politically speaking, harassing opposing media figures and politicians is a great way to drive moderates, independents and the right further away from the left. (And vice versa, when done by the right.) At best it earns clap emojis from blue checkmarks on twitter, at worst it gives republicans a shiny new attack ad to run alongside clips of Maxine Waters encouraging harassment.

Funny I was thinking about listing Bully as my choice in a thread about overlooked/underrated games, it's such a hidden gem. I have to wonder if rockstar will get any kind of backlash these days for having a violent video game based around teenagers/high school. It's become a increasingly sensitive subject since the days when bully was originally released.

Kind of off topic, but as many years as i've put into this game (alpha supporter etc), I just can't get back into it until they figure out some kind of system to carry over your hideout to the next season. I don't want to spend hours and hours every 3 months just trying to make my damn hideout look the same as last season. It's not rewarding at all and the hideout UI experience is generally awful.

I'll be going to Long Island for the wedding. My route is generally going to be I-95 up the coast via google with some modifications, but i'm open to suggestions. I have cash and a pass for tolls (which my gf's father let us use, very generously.) As for planning, we are totally open. Essentially we will have from Monday until Sunday to go wherever we want from Long Island and then get back to South Florida by Sunday at the latest.

Adirondacks would be pretty damn nice, but we haven't decided if we're going to North yet or travel south to get closer to home so we have less drive home overall.

Do you have a mount for your phone? If you're using Google Maps or something, a mount is indispensable.

Great one. Even if I use my car nav i'll still be touching my phone constantly for spotify. Off to Amazon to 2 day a mount!

Also, be sure to talk to each other if something is bothering you. I know quite a few people who have broken up because of something that happened during a road trip, and it almost always stems from a lack of communication during the trip.

This is a really great one, the only fight me and my best friend ever got into after years living with each other was during a road trip. It was like everything built up just came out over that 30+ hour drive. Communication is definitely key.

    Gas

East coast isn't too bad for gas, i've done the Colorado to Florida mid-west trip and I definitely know what you mean though.

    Small pillow

I'm lucky enough to have a very comfy car with "lumbar support" and all that goodness, but a pillow for the bum and neck can not hurt.

    Roadtrip Playlists

Most definitely. I'm also trying to download as much music off of my spotify premium as possible so I can go through no-reception zones without loss of sound.

    Highways/Interstates

On the way there we're going to play it safe and take the most boring direct route since we have to be at a wedding, but on the way back we definitely want to explore and get lost a little.

    Tissues/Napkins/Sunglasses

All very good things to think about, thanks again!

    Car battery brakes, coolant.

All good on the car, I have a 2016 lease with only 20k miles on it and just had it fully checked up Saturday.

Do you have hats and sunglasses for UV protection?

Good call. I lost my good pair and need a replacement asap.

Have you worked out a scheme for seat switching to fairly divide time spent driving?

We have not come up with a plan for the time split yet, but I do enjoy driving and have had a lot of inter-state driving experience so likely i'll do the brunt of it and she will cover when I am tired or want to dick around on my nintendo switch.

Do you have a blanket in case one of you gets cold with the AC on?

Blanket, good one to remember.. the girlfriend gets cold all the time!

Do you have a 40mm grenade launcher for use against tailgaters?

Unfortunately no grenade launcher, but I stocked some red and green shells in the trunk just in case anyone gets close to my kart car.

Good advice. :) And as for the precipitation its about the same here, everyone forgets how the hell to drive as soon as there's a splash on the windshield. That actually just reminded me to check the windshield wipers as well!
