I’ll see if there’s any offers or anything of value that falls out of this for impacted customers, otherwise I’ll probably just move the domain to one of the three registrars I mentioned earlier…with PorkBun being most likely.
I have nothing against SquareSpace, but I adopted the other three due to lower prices than Google while still getting the features I need. If square space are providing the same pricing as Google initially, that’ll make them more expensive. I had left my main domain with Google as I didn’t want to rock the boat for the account I was aligning with Workspace, but seems there’s less reason not to relocate that moving forward.
Bit of a shame to see the consolidation as I do like the Google domains product, especially alongside Workspace. That said, I don’t feel like it’ll impact me all that much.

Comment on I'm out of the loop, what is up with The Legend of Zelda ? in ~games

A big part for the word of mouth this time is because the game has introduced a new building mechanism which is simple to get into but quite robust. It allows for a lot of fun inventions or creative solutions to problems in the game, which appears to have given rise to a lot of content that demonstrates things people have built. This is a completely new thing for the franchise and it look a to be a big part of the press this game is getting, with a constant stream of new creations making news sites.
It’s also a massive title so people are going to be at it for a while and won’t blow through it in a weekend. It thus holds gamers conscious for some time.

Comment on Reddit CEO pledges to not force subreddits to reopen. Admin team then immediately threatens moderators who closed their subreddits with removal. in ~tech

Since yesterday the RIF developer, who Huffman claims had no contact or intention of working with Reddit, has produced email history of interactions.
There’s also the whole narrative about how apps were never supposed to be in the platform while at the same time Huffman personally credits himself, while CEO, as backing third party app support since 2015 (almost a decade). Surely even he can see how contradictory he is being.

Wanted to send a brief hello as my first message here. Hello!I’m here as I was looking for alternatives to Reddit given all that’s gone on there. An Apollo user myself, I feel put out by recent developments so figured I’d see what else is out there. Came across here, Lemmy and kbin as the options that seemed most worth checking out. So far seeing a number of topics here that catch my fancy, and looking to participate in those over time.
As a super brief background besides that arrival story. I’m a father of four (most recent being twins) living in Australia working in IT for state government. Graduated with a software engineering degree around 15 years ago but now days my careers taken me more into systems admin, management, architecture etc. Still love to dabble in a bit of code here and there though.
In terms of hobbies/interests, I’m into F1 (see a front page article for that right now) and video games (Tears of the Kingdom has my attention right now. Before that it was the Resident Evil 4 remake). Also an on and off again tinkerer when it comes to my Home Assistant home automation setup. Also enjoy movies.
Along with the 4 children we have 3 cats, 6 chickens and 5 ducks.
Anyway, intending to post more. Got my invite today and been a bit busy, but wanted to get an initial first post out of the way and to introduce myself here.
There’s the games caught in licensing hell that have been delisted from digital storefronts and didn’t have physical releases. DLC for racing games and the like.
Pretty much any Mac game developed for PowerPC that wasn’t patched for Intel processors, given Rosetta 1 was removed a long time ago.
You can obviously play it via downloading, but the Xbox Live Arcade version of Goldeneye wasn’t released so there’s no strictly legal way to play it. It occupies that weird space of games that was basically done and never shipped. Star Fox 2 would have been here a few years ago also.
Lastly, these are probably obtainable now, but as a kid growing up in Australia in the Pal region, I remember local magazines (this is pre-Internet being a big thing) often running articles on Japanese or NTSC releases that looked amazing that then never shipped locally. Consoles back then were also region locked. Times have really changed in this regard, but being a PAL gamer in the 90s there was a lot of games you’d hear about and never get.
Perhaps the height of this for me was the Nintendo 64 disk drive (DD) that I was always fascinated about and only more recently found out did ship in Japan and has a small library of titles for the device that I’m sure most people have never had access to.
