I'm amazed how much I've enjoyed it and how many games work well on it. I only play single player stuff but even when the alert says the game may not work fully, it still works well for me.

I understand I only have my limited perspective but for me it seems like the sport and the people playing have been overly welcoming and kind to others.
In my city, we have a lot of new courts going in but they of course can get busy so people are playing still in many multi-use areas. I've played games next to tennis players with no problems. Basketball areas without issue. There are tennis courts around town that are very popular in the tennis community and I only ever seeing people playing tennis there. No pushing in of pickleball players.
I see so many empty courts and lots around town, why would we not want to add something there that will be more used? I only somewhat agree with the noise thing. I've played at places with close to 20 courts all going and it's loud next to it but across the parking lot it is not bad at all. As the article mentions, it's loud because all those people talking and laughing.

That fist Meetup made me fall in love with canyons. Sometime later I was planning my first trip ever to Europe and a friend wanted to join but he could only stay a week. I was going to come back with him, but because of this canyoneering group and a contact I got from it, I decided to stay a little longer to make a trip to Switzerland to try a canyon there. After my friend departed and I continued on solo, I stayed at a hostel in Milan and there a met a girl that has now become my wife.
We often think of the sequence of events that led us to staying at the same place on the same night as she was also traveling back home. But for me, I would have never continued on that solo journey if I didn't have that reason to go to try that canyon.
Ironically, I've mostly stopped canyoneering now that I'm married.

It weird as I haven't deleted the app and a few times I've opened it without even thinking. It's funny how programed we can become. But I'm happy now. I get my news and information from a few places now instead of one but I don't mindlessly scroll as much as I used it. I've enjoyed the discussion on this site as well. Overall, slightly painful change but for the better.
Have you priced out or considered rental options. I assume if you are in a decent sized city with the current access you have, rentals are nearby.
They will be pricey if you do it regularly but you won't have the purchase, insurance, or any maintenance to deal with. You can also budget differently for it. Instead of taking a car what if you set aside $1000 for this purpose. How long will it get you?
