Plus the main three actors be killed it. Devastated for them that their love for the show didn't get rewarded.

Also +1 for Scout. Great little game that I'll never turn down a play.

As a consumer I haven't felt the effects of the strike yet. Because everything I've been watching over the past month was either complete, or in post production. Once they run out of existing content, then we'll see the real impacts of the strike.

For now there's still a great line up of shows for August.

With GenCon just around the corner, and board game geek releasing their GenCon preview. What new releases are you most excited about?

For me, I'm keen to check out:
Galactic Cruise: Gorgeous looking box, Ian O'Toole artwork, and initial comments seem extremely positive.
Pampero: I missed the Kickstarter, but still have high hopes this will hit my table one day. Another beautifully looking complex board game. It helps that I'm a sucker for environmentally friendly messaging.
Revive: Call Of The Abyss: More Revive? Yes please! One of my favourite games from 2022 gets an expansion.
Freelancers: A Crossroads Game: Loved Forgotten Waters, and while this is a different designer, I'm interested to see if it reaches the same level. I certainly love the RPG aesthetic, and hope there are hijinks aplenty!
Sea Salt & Paper: Getting a lot of buzz recently, and I'll never say no to small box game.
Kelp: The description reads, "A head-to-head battle of wits between an Octopus and a Shark." Say no more, I'm in!

Having the opposite experience, I love this new version of Final Fantasy. Can't get enough of it to be honest, although I'm also not trying to rush through it. I'll spend a couple of hours a night doing side quests or driving through the main story.

I wish there was more you could do with the gear, and it was more interesting. But the biggest thing it's missing is variation. You're either fighting, travelling, or watching a cutscene. Where's my random card game? Where's the DDR dance sequence?

You might want to try Kids on the Slope it's also by Shinichiro Watanabe. Although it's slice of life and not action focused like those other titles. Its about a young concert pianist learning about Jazz for the first time, and getting caught up in it. The music is amazing as well.

Just finished season 2 a couple of days ago, and honestly some of the best TV I've seen. I am in love with Richie's growth throughout both series, and the whole cast actually.

This season was more chill than last and really got into why they love what they're doing. Seeing that passion play out is always inspiring to me.

At its core it reminds me a lot of Ted Lasso where everything is approached with a sincerity. And although Carny clearly has issues, I love that his leadership style isn't command and control that we so often see on screen.

Season 2 Spoilers Forks was easily my favourite episode, the recontextualising of Every Second Counts was a master stroke. But there was a lot of that throughout the episode. When Richie finally got it, I almost cried.

Also shout out to Jamie Lee Curtis, I feel like she earned her Oscar win with that performance. Not that she wasn't great in everything everywhere, but Stephanie Hsu was incredible.

But I am enjoying it a lot with my wife, it's got just enough crunch to keep me thinking. Plus the art style and map you make is an absolutely delightful.

Have been playing a fair amount of Beacon Patrol which is coming soon from Pandasaurous Games. It's a delightful cooperative tile laying game.

Otherwise, played Cat in the Box I enjoyed it but not sure if I love it yet. Feels a bit too chaotic, and hard to nail down a strategy. Will play it again this week though.

Off the top of the dome, we've seen:

    • the rise of cloud computing
    • 3d printing
    • cardless cash
    • Doorbells with video
    • Self checkout
    • green energy & electric vehicles
    • Nowadays there's an app for everything
    • Because, you can do anything technological easier than ever.

But I think it's this last point that's the important one. Where everything has become incredibly easy, and we can do so much more with less time. I was playing final fantasy 16 last night and the graphics are next level. Compare that to a game 15 years ago.

That's one example, but the same type of innovation is happening yearly across all industries. We just don't see the innovation, we just see the end result of incrementally better goods and service.

Over the last week, I got to play Revive. Which is quickly becoming one of my favourite releases over the last year. It feels like there's always something you can do, and it's incredibly expansive. Except there are only 4 different types of actions!

It might be crazy, but I compare it to Spirit Island in terms of stuff you can do, versus how easy it is to play.
