Locally for me a combination of pub closures and increasing population has really caused pub density to plummet compared to where it would have been 10 years ago.

Most recently for me I've played and finished The Bookwalker, a point and click adventure game where each "level" is inside a different book.

Not too much to say really, found it enjoyable, puzzles found a sweet spot that for a couple I had to give them some thought, but not to the point of frustration.
The books that make up the different levels worked well for, with their own little twists on what each of them are based on.

All in all, enjoyable game that didn't overstay it's welcome.

To some extent it feels like we're experiencing the downside of companies trying to shield consumers from the increased cost of components. As we now see the bigger "shock" increase for the end product, compared to smaller more frequent increases.

Sadly I think may mean in future that companies will be faster to pass these increases on again in future, compared to absorbing short term ones like they have in the past.

Also from the UK and can't see how people can think this is normal summer weather any more. The odd little spike we used to get? Sure easier to explain away, but given how just May and now June have gone this year with extremes of heat and for the time of year wet weather... very different story.

Not 100% sure if this is still the case but initial forecasting for this week had us set to break the all time peak temperature record for the country in just June, so if patterns hold it would have also likely then been broken in July and August in turn.

I finished up Chants of Sennaar this weekend.

Thoroughly enjoyed the puzzles and working out the different languages that are presented.

    extra spoilery thoughts

first of all, it took me far too long that it's based on the tower of Babel, even considering it's in the games logo on steam....

Whilst I did enjoy the puzzles for the most part I felt the rotary ones for the exiles left a little bit to be desired, compared to the other groups prior.

For the ending I can only comment on the basis that I had reformed the connections in the tower. The final twist with the exile program was interesting, but also felt a bit of a departure to the rest of the game, having to go through a twisted version of what came before to reach the ending proper.

This past weekend I finished up Dungeons of Hinterberg, and it's mini add-on Episode Renaud.

At first it felt like a little quirky game, magic / dungeons now exist in a mountain village in Austria. A four part day cycle exists, so you can only do so much on a given day which is the primary way pacing is controlled.

    general story thoughts

Starting pace to the story was a tad slow, but given the premise was the main character is on holiday(vacation) to experience magic & the dungeons I wouldn't hold that against it.

Things do start to pick up once the Onion Festival event happens, but I also think the story only really lands if you make sure to engage with enough of the extra characters in the evenings.

Episode Renaud, as a mini prequel serves to mix up gameplay a bit but will also be largely familiar based on the end state of the main game. It's stronger point to me was how it feeds into the start of the main game.

The latest finished game for me is God of War Ragnarok, and the Valhalla DLC.

I really enjoyed the 2018 game so was looking forward to getting stuck into this one. Whilst I did enjoy it to the point I took on and finished the various optional challenges, I do think the pacing wasn't quite as strong compared to how the previous one sits in my memory.

The Valhalla DLC is a little rogue like mode, that feels like it works well within the broader God of War Norse game combat formula.

Story wise it serves as a vehicle to show how Kratos has grown following the events of both the original trilogy and newer Norse games.

Given the ending of this and Ragnarok it'll be interesting to see where they take the series going forwards outside of rumoured games set between the two periods.
