The world is not fair: that's such a great theme for these streaming services to have in their shows.

Thanks be to that. I'm regularly impressed with Apple TV shows that I watch.

Same, I'm consistently impressed with their sci-fi shows in particular. Just really strong shows that are well made, and I'm glad they're being made!

Predictions on when Snow Crash will get an adaption? Surely we are not far off at this point.

If I were allowed to have a Stephenson book on TV, it'd be The Diamond Age first. Don't hate me. I think it'd make a better show.

Maybe it'll have new legs once the AI bubble bursts, and we do that nostalgic, collective "look-back" thing we do when we realize a facet of daily life we took for granted now only lives on in our memories.

See: corded phones, ringing doorbells, hanging out in meatspace etc.

To be clear, I like the Primer as it was set up for the two protagonists - that is, with barely any AI in the first place. Even in the story, this is of course immensely expensive and not feasible for everyone. I just wish the story had ended differently...

I don't remember the ending (probably because it wasn't exciting? Haha) but I sure remember the underground virus fluid exchange parties! Yikes!

The rights have been sold and lapsed on it so many times. It entered a development hell. I can't image Apple didn't look at it considering their commitment to sci-fi as a branding strategy. I'd blindly wager there's some kind of legacy agreement in place with someone who originally optioned, or a right of first refusal somewhere that is holding it up. Likewise the success of Ready Player One (despite being a nostalgia drenched Snow Crash ripoff) undoubtedly set the timeline back on an adaptation.

I feel like its a more awkward story to adapt. Snow crash starts firing on all cylinders, and even ignoring some easy to fix but certainly problematic plot points, sorta ambles into "shit i've seen before". I can imagine no one is jumping at adapting something that's going to be expensive, difficult, and tell a story most have seen done better elsewhere.

It has been a long time since I've read any Gibson, this will be a good excuse to pull out the Sprawl books.

I am glad it will be a series, not a movie. I feel like it gives them the space to do all the interesting bits and not be constrained by time.

I'm late, but whatever. I'm...cautiously optimistic? I think the cast looks pretty good. Not sure if Callum Turner would have been my first choice. He lacks of bit of the "roughness" that I come to associated with Case. I think Mark Strong is a pretty good option for Armitage. Mark Mencha for Dixie is about as close to a physical manifestation of a construct as one could get lol. Don't know much about Briana but I don't think she will be a bad Molly based on the 2 minute trailer.

Other thoughts I have in no particular order: Lots of CG which could be good or bad. The Sprawl seems way too clean. I mean the opening line in the book is "The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel". It felt waaaay to bright and clean. Of course that might be Zion, but who knows.

There are some practical looking effects, so I hope it tries to strike a good balance. Very excited to see the Panther Moderns and my boi Lupus.

I am pretty sure William Gibson had conflicted thoughts about a movie or some kind of show, but all in all it feels like a good time to be a sci-fi fan. Hears to hoping its doesn't completely suck!

To be honest, I’ve never read the original book, but my thought on the actual visuals of the trailer was that it felt a little like I was peering into the Uncanny Valley. I’m not sure exactly what, but there’s just something about it that seems… off. Too bright? Too… cheerful? Too coiffed? I just don’t know.
