In video games I have been trying to get through Flywrench, it is a very hard platformer-type (though you always stay in the air, never walking), it is very fun with a great soundtrack. I've also been trying to get better at Devil Daggers, a first person hell game where you try to kill demons and survive as long as possible, my best is 215 seconds.

I have also been super into the card game Dominion lately, I own a bunch of the expansions now and all of them are just so cool and fun to play with and trying to come up with a new strategy each time. It is surprisingly deep with what you can do in any given game, and each expansion does a bunch of different cool stuff. Warning: if you get the base game you may find yourself buying a lot of expansions and spending a lot of money.

I think speedruns in this sense are one way to enjoy a game both as a spectator and a player. I can say with certainty that the game I've put the most time into speedrunning would not be nearly as enjoyable if it did not have glitches, and that another game, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga is made extremely fun to watch by the glitches. However this is not the only way to enjoy games of course.

Personally I think that the "debate" aspect is meant to illustrate the point made about how arguments that are more aesthetically pleasing are the ones that many viewers take away as being the right ones, and that the actual content of the argument means less. All of Justine's arguments seem more appealing because she's representing the easy accepting of what society thinks and going along with it, instead of Tabby going for what she really is and believes in.

When Justine convinces Tabby to wear heels instead of combat boots, Tabby's main response is that it makes her feel uncomfortable and that she prefers to be who she really feels like, even if society does not associate that feeling with womanhood. Justine is in the wrong for constantly trying to make her into something she is not, but since she does a better job of making herself more "presentable" by society's standards, she seems to not be so thoughtless about the fact that she is trying to impose her own ideas of gender onto another person who does not see it in the same way.

I can see how someone might dislike this video, especially since Natalie doesn't do very much to obviously portray Justine as in the wrong, but my main takeaway from it was that Justine's ideas of gender and especially the way she imposes this idea onto others physically makes those who do not share those ideas uncomfortable.

Lastly, on the subject of Tabby as a joke character in her other videos, that's fair. I personally think a character who is usually comic relief can also be heard as a rational character with serious ideas, but I agree that it may associate her ideas with being a joke.

Personally I don't think that whether I agree with someone should be based on whether others agree with them. Also that's a pretty big given for a community to not be toxic. As it stands I don't think tildes is toxic almost ever, but I still see those who wish for a more diverse body of thought. I guess I just don't think it's wise to rely on other people to always choose the best and most reasonable content, and that it's better to decide that for yourself.

I agree, and I think another big negative impact the vote counts have are who you agree with when reading a comment chain. I try not to do this but find myself guilty of it on reddit a lot where if I'm reading a conversation and one person has all negative score comments and the other person has all positive score comments, it just makes me feel like the positive score comment is more reasonable (except on some subs) and I think that's something that should be avoided.

I definitely spend a lot more time reading comments here, but I think that only serves to make me more likely to leave one of my own. On reddit I could read half of a comment and just think it's boring and pointless, but here I legitimately enjoy reading through discussions. As a result of reading more, I feel like I might have something to say about it myself, especially since it usually takes me a bit of time to even gather my thoughts.

Overall I think it comes down to whether you're the kind of person who can make quick-witted responses that a ton of people will see and upvote, or the kind of person who prefers to write sentences to paragraphs at a time to try and make some sort of longer and more involved discussion.

I think everyone has at least a little bit of shitpost in them now and again, but that it should be largely kept to certain places. I don't even shitpost on reddit anymore because I've found that discord servers, especially small ones with people I know, are a much better place to have that sort of no-filter shitpost because there everyone is just friends.

Yeah, I think there's some correlation with post length and effort, but you can absolutely have insightful and good discussion in a sentence or two, or an entire novel that says nothing at all. Shorter comments can especially be part of a good discussion if they are part of a thread of back-and-forth.

I absolutely agree that not everyone is super closed-minded about it. Heck, I was one of those edgy kids, but over time I learned to be accepting of others. But I don't want to ignore the fact that there are many people who, when presented the facts, just outright refuse to accept them. For example, the entire reaction to the gender episode of Bill Nye's new show.

I do think time is an important factor here. With time, people can come around and we may start to see large shifts in attitudes on trans people. But we have to act fast because of a certain group that attempts to radicalize young people into the belief that trans people are dangerous, and if those people are swept up in that before they see the merits of being accepting, they may only double down and refuse to believe it and call it "cultural marxism" or something.

But, in the end I think you are right. People will come around, and those who don't will be replaced by those who are more accepting in the first place. I just worry that people I care about will be hurt.

I'd like to look at a particularly interesting comment from that post.

"Every sub on this site that isn't rigorously moderated by SJWs is low key conservative."

Let's assume that this poster is correct (and take "SJW" so mean anyone who dislikes bigotry), then that would, if anything, confirm the paradox of tolerance. In other words, if we tolerate intolerant beliefs, those intolerant beliefs will push out tolerant people. If a sub is not modded to remove toxicity and bigotry, then those who don't like toxicity and bigotry will jump ship, making an overall shift towards those who are at least tolerant of it.

Side note: I'm not saying conservatives are more likely to be bigoted, but that's what came across from the comment. To them, being ok with blatant bigotry is conservative.

I'm hesitant of this kind of thing for two reasons.

    1. It puts people into these groups of who are and who are not 'allowed' to be trans or just not identify with their assigned at birth gender. It may seem intuitive that there is some brain pattern that can determine whether someone will have these feelings but it could potentially isolate those who don't fit into that brain pattern.
    2. It may lead to a feeling that those who fit this pattern are a sort of other. That there are people who are trans because their brains are telling us that, and then there are 'normal' people. I don't think this one will necessarily happen, but I definitely see it as a possibility.

Personally I think the solution should be more of a redefining of how we view gender and gender identity, but unfortunately wishing that people will be better than they are is a dream that can never be achieved. That being said, I do think that there is absolutely merit to your idea because it could certainly facilitate transitioning for those who do fit into whatever brain activity is found to correlate with being trans.
