One example is how often I encounter people with social skills that are lightyears ahead of mine which makes it hard to even keep up. Another is how distracted I am by things like people walking by or new noises. Nonetheless, it's an overall huge boon for my happiness and well-being.
I've also had ambitions to work outside but unfortunately it's just impractical most of the time. It takes time, makes calls difficult, and is super inefficient for work that benefits from large monitors like spreadsheets. With some strategic prioritization, I suppose one could create a day of the week where the workload is cafe friendly. Like you, any amount of work stress would completely eliminate my desire to try this.
Fortunately, I feel like job searching has many sub tasks that can be done casually in a variety of environments. It could even be good mental preparation for when you land a job and want to work outside.

While work could be a trigger leading you to do that, I would consider exploring other reasons that enable work to have that effect on you. I say this because I don't think that's a typical manifestation of burnout and to me, a non expert in anything relevant, this suggests something like anxiety or depression that could be treated.

On a business/finance note, OpenAI would have been purchasable by any player in the space while it was operating. It's not as if they can just decline any potential buyer until Microsoft is ready to buy their stake. When a compelling offer is made, the company has a fiduciary responsibility to accept it and can otherwise face shareholder lawsuits (Twitter was essentially put into this scenario). So this would've been a pretty huge risk by Microsoft.

The pipedream of AI that I cling to is the potential to replace menial work and free humans up to do more interesting or creative things. Working in fast food sucks and I don't wish it on anyone so the idea that we can eliminate some of those jobs is great. To the original comment's point, it's only great if this person has guaranteed income or another job.
As for the second, I feel it's nicer to order from a kiosk on days where I'm feeling more anxious and while I haven't personally ordered by voice to an AI assistant I can imagine that it's a similar level of comfort.

I remember reading a lot of great points on Tildes about how young men are struggling to find their place in a changing society and looking for easy answers that far-right politics offer.
I imagine this is particularly difficult in Spain which is a very patriarchal society historically but has a strong and rebellious youth.

It's ironic to me that addiction/habits are so strong yet they really get us in the most mundane moments like when we're bored. It's not some great struggle where we fight for our lives, it's just a constant pull.
Let me add another recommendation for tea to the pile. However, I specifically recommend gongfu tea. Gongfu is a style where you steep tea several times in small quantities and appreciate the flavor development through each steep. It's meditative, hands on, and rewarding to experience the different possible flavors. On flavors, the range is honestly incredible. Oolong teas can offer a strong mineral flavor with toastyness brought on from the roasting process or they can have none of those and be vegetal or even savory. White tea can be perfumey or floral or almost taste like honey. There are of course many other kinds and possible flavors. In gongfu, tea is mostly pure Chinese tea leaves which makes it much better than Western teas in terms of lower sweetness. A potential downside is obviously the caffeine. Apparently herbal teas are not a good fit for this style of brewing.

I feel like making room for a basic running watch or fitness tracker could be good. Having tangible metrics is really motivating especially at the beginning when improving is easy. On the flip side, it can be demoralizing to be shown the very slow pace that is needed at the beginning. I'm currently trying to figure out where I stand with fitness tracking, I probably put too much weight on it.

I feel like the long term game for the defendants here is to get far enough away from that election that it now feels like "bringing up old dirt" and public sentiment shifts towards wanting peace and stability instead of reliving these events.
That's a cool website, do you read it often? Gonna bookmark it and start following stories.

Unlike you, I've accepted that I'll just have to enjoy it made by others. When made correctly, it is phenomenal.
Maybe try Spanish legend Jose Andres's technique? His restaurant chain Jaleo has a recipe here.
More than anything, I think this is something you make many times until you understand the variables. Consider saving the two cups of olive oil for frying. Spaniards filter it and store it for reuse since frying doesn't need pristine oil.

Lots of strange racing lines from many drivers throughout the race. I wonder if there was a reason for that.
Really happy for Norris and overall found it to be a very entertaining race weekend. It was heartwarming to see the other drivers congratulating him. Hopefully McLaren can keep this pace moving forward.

Because of this, we might see an increase in drug testing as a result of legalization.
There are definitely situations where I support testing (heavy machinery, surgeons, etc.) but I would love to see legal protections limiting the scope of testing to active metabolites instead of any cannabinoid.
While we're at it, what annoys me the second most is that it seems like black market weed is maintaining an advantage to legal weed in several states. In places like Chicago, the price difference is so extreme that it's much more economical to buy from the black market or even drive to Michigan to buy in bulk. At this point, these poorly implemented state level measures are what we'll be stuck with even if it's legalized federally.

Interesting to hear that shotspotter was the impetus for a police response. That technology is in a controversial place in the city. Many of us wonder if it's worth the high price to maintain these around the city and deal with the very high percentage of false alarms that send police around the city. In this case, it seems like it's the reason officers arrived when they did which shows some value. Unfortunately in this case there is no way for police to have been there in time.
There's a strange subreddit called r/chiraqology that I would recommend to anybody curious about modern gang culture in Chicago. It's eye opening to say the least. Perhaps I read it on here, but I once read an opinion that I really agree with which is that many of these youths are knowingly committing suicide with the actions they take related to gang violence. They have countless reasons to experience depression and low self worth, and by taking these actions "for their family/brothers" or "to make it big" they can escape this life without the stigma of directly committing suicide. Relating back to that subreddit, you'll see things like individuals who are actively being hunted by a rival gang decide to go live on Facebook and stream their location.
Anyway, this is just some rambling from somebody who lives in the city and wonders if it'll ever change.

It's so interesting to me that people continue to choose combusting over vaporizing or using concentrates. The other two options are higher value, more convenient, smell significantly less, still provide flavor (in many cases a better flavor), and provide a cleaner high (this part may be undesirable to people seeking a groggy/almost drunk mental state). If I had to guess, it's mostly the cool factor of joints/blunts and the fact that many grew up smoking this way.
I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say concentrates are deadly. Do you mean the cartridges that were using harmful solvents? In that case I totally agree. However, if you trust your source due to personal relationships or third party lab testing (which fortunately is becoming commonplace) then there should be no health concerns and I would argue it's the healthiest form of inhaling cannabis.

Then they moved to calories since sugar is surprisingly low in calories for how unhealthy it is. With those already being used up I think it makes sense to move to the current strategy.
On calories, sugar may have little but that doesn't paint the full picture. Calories from sugar provide a limited feeling of fullness, provide little nutrition, and bring on all the unhealthy metabolic processes that come from blood sugar spikes.

Having non American family members, I am often told how jealous they are of our country having a party as far to the right as the Republican party. I'm sure Christianity has a large role to play there and also the surprisingly (to me at least) xenophobic nature of many countries in the world.
Perhaps they've been voting democrat for self preservation and no longer feel the need to.

It feels like each see half of the picture and get frustrated with the other side.
A common example is when some library has a critical vulnerability posted on NVD and the CISO sounds the alarm for an urgent fix. Then the dev team explains that the product only uses a small function of that library to do something relatively benign like render a chart. The CISO cannot overcome the sheer horror of having one critical CVSS score on the vulnerability scan and the dev team cannot fathom making an unnecessary fix.
Ultimately, as a function that is tangentially involved during these disputes, I feel like this comes down to a better understanding of security and risk management. A CVSS score is only part of the picture and is almost completely independent of context. In my work, I try to ensure that a CVSS score is only considered alongside the severity of its exploitation. In this case, that probably means siding with this developer.

Each component seems fairly simple and should more or less work "off-the-shelf" from how they're used in other applications (winches, generators, sliding rail things, substation/grid connections). I guess a big factor is how much terraforming (is this a real word outside of videogames?) they'll need to do to accommodate the setup.
I guess I'm just very excited to see this. Thanks for sharing.
A regulatory topic! The hearing aid software got granted a De Novo which is FDAs pathway for devices that create a new product type. It's mainly just an administrative difference from the normal way to clear a lower risk (Class 2) medical device which is a 510k submission. You can read a public summary of what they submitted here for technical and regulatory details.
I don't see mention of the protection feature but that may be a valid regulatory strategy. It's not like other noise cancelling devices are getting FDA clearance even if they're rated for concerts.
