I played two and a bit hours of No Man's Sky and found it incredibly boring. Ship flight was incredibly awkward too.

I finished the new Saints Row last night. It was pretty good, not $75 CDN good though, wait till it comes to Steam and drops in price a bit.

The combat was okay, some guns like the shotguns aren't worth using, a shotgun should be able to one-shot an NPC point blank but the assault shotgun takes several mags to put down a single enemy. Sniper rifle is terrible for some reason although it can one-hit KO.

Driving is okay even when using a keyboard, although all the cars appear to have a top speed of 75Kph.

The enemy faction leaders get next to no characterization and one of them gets killed in a cutscene.

Your player character and friends are portrayed as poor college students but lack of money is never an issue in this game.

All in all the game is fun if a bit buggy, but what you're told and what actually happens in-game frequently disagree.

I've been playing the new Saints Row, it's got some flaws like the overly complex menu system for modifying guns, cars and the player character; also a lack of characterization for the gang leaders. The driving is a bit better than previous Saints Row games but the drifting is nowhere near as good as Burnout Paradise's.

The map is large and varied and the ventures are fun, delivering trucks carrying barrels of toxic waste was neat. The city-wide LARP missions were hilarious, I'd love to see a spin-off game based around just that.

I haven't finished the game but I think I'm near the end. The game has you start out as a group of four young adults barely making ends meet, but that gets discarded pretty quickly once you get the church.

I haven't had too many issues, the game crashed once but I didn't lose any progress; I did have a humorous bug involving one of the small freight trains that travels through the industrial parks: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/558037078416424978/1013264810642776064/Saints_Row_--_DX12_8_27_2022_9_48_38_PM.png

All in all it's pretty fun but not $75 CDN amounts of fun. I'll wait till it comes to Steam and drops in price a bit.

It's been a while since I watched it so I'm not sure if I could say I love it but I haven't seen anyone mention The Delta State. It was a Canadian-made (AFAIK) rotoscoped sci-fi about five psychic, amnesiac young adults. It only got one season, the ending was fairly satisfying but there was a cliffhanger that we'll never see resolved.

I'm not sure exactly how to word this but I feel like there's far more options of toothpaste than there really needs to be. At my local wal-mart there's a quarter of an isle dedicated just to toothpase. I wouldn't be surprised if toothpaste manufacturers create an excess of effectively identical kinds of toothpaste just to make people think they need highly specialized formulas.

I tried playing The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe last night and I found it absolutely insufferable, although I don't know what it was specifically that made me not like it.

I also tried Steamworld Heist again and quit playing after an hour or two. I didn't like how you could recruit several characters but were artificially limited to how many you could take on missions. Also there was no passive method of levelling up new recruits, so you'd either grind older missions or just use the characters you're already using.

I started watching a youtuber play Stray but lost interest when the cat got a robot buddy, I don't know why.

I've been playing Burnout Paradise over the last few weeks and decided to try out the bikes again. I had forgotten how terrible the bikes were. None of the bikes (all 4 of them) have a boost system and two of the bikes aren't worth using. Also all the events are blitzes. Some blitzes you can only do during the day, others at night but for no real reason. Some races have checkpoints which is odd since none of the single player car races do. There are no bike opponents.

I've been playing Timespinner, a Metroidvania game that has a time manipulation mechanic. I've never played a metroidvania game before. The game has an easy mode where you can't die as far I can tell which is good for me because I would have died a thousand times in the ~3 hours I've put in so far. There's characters that give you quests but they're not distinctive from other NPCs so I'll talk to one, go to another screen and come back and talk to them not realizing I just talked to them. There's no quest log either and I've had to look up walkthroughs numerous times to figure out where I'm supposed to be going.

I played the demo to Ixion, it's a lot like Frostpunk but in Spaaaaaace! It was quite good although there were a couple of times where I didn't know what I was supposed to do. I'm reasonably interested in the full game when it comes out.

I started a new Factorio playthrough using the Space Exploration mod. I've only played maybe an hour and a half. The mod expands the burner phase of the game which I already don't like.

Unrelated to the above I stayed in a hotel last Thursday evening and good lord was the cable TV horrendously bad. I wish I had brought my laptop so that I could access Jellyfin at home.

I've been working on tidying up all the cables in my server rack. Today I upgraded the CPU in the server than runs Blue Iris and shortened the cable runs to my security cameras.

The other day I got a cable management arm for my Dell Poweredge R730XD and I've got one coming for my R420. The R420 is a backup target for proxmox that's running on my R730XD and also stores a copy of all the data on the R730XD.

I also ordered some fiber optic gear for my rack for better cable management.

I finally got a data plan so I made a spotify account to listen to music while I drive and also to find new music and while there's a lot of dross I did find some songs I liked:

    • The Gap by Thompson Twins
    • Just Another Day by Oingo Boingo (what a name)
    • Talking In Your Sleep by The Romantics
    • She Talks In Stereo by Gary Myrick and The Figures

I do feel like I've hit another wall as the daily mixes appear to be all the same songs I've already heard.

I tried Project Highrise. It's okay, it needs some polish still and there's some design choices I don't care for. For example you can build a simple studio apartment, it's your starting apartment. Later on you can build deluxe studio apartments, but you can't renovate a simple studio apartment into a deluxe studio apartment, you have to evict the tenant, wait for your crew to clean up the rubble and build the new apartment. Furthermore evicting tenants creates a debuff to your prestige rating. Also some apartment types require certain decorations but I find that the game isn't clear what kind of decoration you have to build. So I spent several thousand dollars on art, when all that was needed was some chairs.

I tried Timberborn, it's a lot like The Colonists but with beavers. I don't have a strong opinion on it. One thing I found odd is how you unlock new structures. You build a research centre which lets you accrue research points which unlock a structure. Some structures are quite useful like the sawmill, while others less so like a wooden bench.

I played chapter 2 of the Sim Settlements 2 mod for Fallout 4. It was quite good although I found one later quest at Gunner's Plaza to be quite buggy, I had to use the tgm command through pretty much the entirety of it to get stuff built.

OpenTTD is still great, the XIS Extreme Industry Set mod really ramps up the production chains of industries. If you thought FIRS Extreme was easy take a look at XIS.

I've started playing Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and while I am enjoying it good lord is the UI terrible, there's so much unnecessary clicking. For example, to pick a single berry bush you walk up the bush, press A twice, get asked if you're sure you want to pick the bush, press A for yes, then A two more times to dismiss the dialogue I've seen a hundred times before! There's no reason to not pick the berry bush! Just let me press A ONCE and move onto the next bush!
