Additionally further to your concerns about outage please also consider security in the context of data breaches. Especially if you have personally identifiable information hosted there may be strick reporting requirements in your jurisdiction. Your current host almost certainly handles this for you. If at all possible you do not want to be managing this.

Without spoiling the story, what triggers an alien invasion also reveals that certain humans are under control of a mysterious entity. So while battling the invading force they have to content with not knowing who to trust. So from your description it seemed to fit due to several humans not acting under their own will.

Whoops. Thanks for the correction. Good point, Night’s Dawn also fits the description, potentially even the Salvation Trilogy, but I found the ending to that series slightly unsatisfying.

Quite a long trilogy but I highly recommend the sci-fi space opera “Commonwealth Saga” by Peter F Hamilton.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share that Immersive Labs has rolled out their "Haunted Halloween" challenges for 2023. For those unfamiliar, Immersive Labs offers a platform for interactive, gamified learning in the realm of cybersecurity. They've been known to host challenges that test and enhance cyber skills.

You can sign up for free using code HAUNTEDHOLLOW to try it out hubs.ly/Q026LTZV0.

Now, I'm not posting this solely out of altruism. I could use some help on the 'Mirrored Mayhem' task.

Spoiler Alert: Details about the challenge below I've managed to get the RCE. I've crafted a PNG and successfully executed remote code. However, I'm only able to find the 'webapp-token'. I'm at a loss when it comes to the 'user-token' or 'root-token'. The 'whats in the mirror?' file isn't giving me any leads either. I've also got a username/password from it but can't figure out where to use them.

Would appreciate any pointers or hints from anyone who's tackled this challenge. Thanks in advance!

I actually switched the other way funnily enough. I ran on Pi 4s for a long time, but was feeling some slowness when running large tasks. I run a server hosting a Django app, with Postgres and Grafana. Overall Pi is a great solution (barring the shortage last year). I just yearned for something faster.

Now the search is on for a reliable alternative.

Self Destruction Mode by The Chainsmokers and bludnymph. This came through my Spotify list a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t remember the name of the song, but this morning I found it again!

I recently also had to do something like this. I ended up writing a small program in Python using Camelot. It worked surprisingly well.

The big one from last year where they technically had two incident (related), first hackers gained access to their dev environment due to a social engineer/phishing type attack. However more seriously, secondly (due to the fact they didn’t clean up properly after the first hack), several months later the same hackers gained access to all (some?) the product vaults. Obviously the vault are encrypted, but it was unacceptable to me the steps they took and the responses they gave.

Drivers tend to see a bike and assume it travels at “bike speeds”. So when they speed along at 45km/h you get them cutting you off, etc.

I bought an 45 km/h e-bike to commute to work and it’s amazing. My commute is faster than by car given the route I can take. However where I live (Switzerland) there are many safety restrictions. I must have passed a driving test (not necessarily for a car, but that counts too), I must wear a helmet, it must have a side mirror, I must have the lights on at all times (even in the day), strict limits on where I can ride, etc.

Generally I feel safe, and act safe. However there is a slightly negative connotation around e-bikes given that they can disturb pedestrians due to their speed, and car drivers sometimes get surprised by them (not really the bikers fault).

Also a 1Password user here. I migrated from LastPass after their security incident. I’m very happy with the functionality. I recently got it to host my SSH keys for the Linux boxes in my home lab, so now when I ssh in it pulls the keys from 1Password instead of them being stored on my harddrive! Also sharing with the family is very easy.
