I’m a bit of an audiophile. I don’t believe in magic cables or anything, but I do have some decent equipment.

Headphones: Sennheiser HD6XX. I bought these last year and really love how they sound a lot like speakers around my head.

IEMs: Etymotic ER4XR. These are far and beyond the most flawlessly transparent headphones I’ve ever heard. It reproduces the music very accurately. Some people may hate that but I love it.

Hi-Fi: Polk Audio SDA2, Polk Audio Monitor 7, Polk Monitor 10 (well... I guess I have a type...) with a Marantz 4270 quad receiver.

But unfortunately I don’t live in a home where I can use any of those right now, because I live in a small apartment. So, I’ve switched to modern consumer speakers... I have some Sonos speakers throughout my home and stereo Homepods in my bedroom. They’re pricy, but I’m very happy with them! The Etys are my commuting speakers and the Senns mostly don’t get used anymore.

My laptop isn’t able to run Cities: Skylines at a decent framerate, but I had no idea about Factorio!!! That’s new since its release. Thanks! I can’t wait to install it.

Sony is my internet provider (technically their ISP branch, SoNet). I pay ~¥3700/mo ($35USD) for 2Gbps fiber. I haven't noticed any substantial speed drops that actually impact me, though sometimes I do only get about (wired) 600Mbps during peak hours. I just did a test over wifi and I got 400/450Mbps down/up. The "catch" is there's no router on the market with greater than gigabit ethernet ports, so I can only max out a single connection at 1Gbps. But there's no data cap or throttling, so I'm really just whining.

Overall, I have no real complaints now that I'm connected. The connection is stable, and when I'm hardwired to the network, I get full gigabit speeds. When I first signed up, it took almost a month for them to get my apartment wired (two visits, first to run fiber through my home and then to connect me to the main line) so I had no internet for almost four weeks.

For mobile, I use Docomo, I pay something like ¥7000/mo ($67) for 20GB with rollover and unlimited talk. Texting costs money but everyone in Japan uses Line anyway. I also can't really complain about them! I have good, reliable coverage even in rural areas, and my speeds are fast (120Mbps right now).

The only annoying thing, to me, is that for both Sony and Docomo, my contract is two years with early cancellation fees. That's pretty standard in Japan, but it still feels so dated. I don't know why I'd switch to any other options right now anyway, though!

How about you tell us what you do, what you are known for? Better yet, how about you tell us about you as a person, and what you're willing to contribute?

I'd really appreciate an introduction to you as a person! All I know about you is that you "aggregate content" to your reddit account, and used it as a digital marketing portfolio. This community is a lot more composed, and largely puts more effort into the comments and posts, but more importantly it's still quite small, so you see familiar usernames around everywhere. That means it's harder to blend in anonymously like reddit, but it also means it's harder to stand out among everyone else for the merit of being famous on another social media site.

This is a really important rebuttal. I’ve been trying to think of a good response, or solution, but am kind of at a loss. Ultimately, while I do think transparency is important, I do concede that nothing of real value is gained.

I suppose one counter-idea could be to add the ability to “edit and delete history” but then we return to the balance of transparency and user privacy, since a user may not see or understand that.

    Thanks for the thoughtful checkmate!

I feel like this would be good for transparency. It's a feature Facebook used to have and then took away— but I think something that either shows each edit's version in a timeline, or a diff, or just a "first and final revision" comparison would be nice.

I'd prefer the first suggestion (a chronological version history), but any form of viewing a comment's history would be really appreciated!

To be fair, I didn't get very far. I played the first one and I think part of the second one. The writing quality was good (I mean, you don't get jokes like that with sloppy writing) but I felt the narrative/plot didn't exactly have nuance or depth.

But I can't say that with total certainty since, like you alluded to, I didn't play the entire games.. And I actually never play DLC, I still haven't moved past the early 2010s mindset of DLC being lower quality content shoehorned into the base game.

Oh my goodness, I love Nex Machina! The music and tight controls and the way the levels are designed as proper waves and not just randomised noise are all just so gripping. Thanks for reminding me about it— I should definitely play it over my new system!

Housemarque's games have all been killer. I recently repurchased Super Stardust HD for the PS4 with the PSVR DLC and while the game has aged so it doesn't feel as tight as Resogun or Nex Machina, it's still a blast. The Geometry Wars series is a favourites of mine too, and more recently, I marathoned through Celeste in a couple weeks (which is impressive for me since I rarely complete games).

I don't have a gaming PC at the moment, all I have is a work MacBook Pro, so the only "computer" game I've been playing is Urban Dead, an old old browser-based zombie apocalypse survival MMO. I joined a survivalist group and we've been waging war and coordinating attacks on the resident zombie horde / PK corp union while discussing and planning over Discord. It's been pretty fun considering I used to solo it over a decade ago!

On consoles, I've been playing Thumper and DJMax Respect. I really like rhythm games, and recently got a nice speaker system for my TV so it's breathed new life into the experience! I don't really have a particular genre I stick to, but I like fast-paced twitchy arcade games that have lots of replayability, easy start-stoppability, and tight controls— so: rhythm games, twin-stick shooters, fast platformers, things like that. I also play a lot of Rocket League, but that's one of the only multiplayer games I've ever seriously gotten into.

I really miss my Windows PC because city builders are like relaxing crack to me. Cities: Skylines and Factorio were my favourites.

I like RPGs in theory, but have never had the patience for them.

This seems like a really odd suggestion to someone who dislikes shooty-shoot games and likes deep emphasis on narratives and story. Borderlands is exclusively a shooty-shoot game and has a much stronger emphasis on jokes than it does story, much less a nuanced story. (I say this as someone with similar preferences to @cptcobalt, who also found Borderlands fun but quickly got bored of the repetition and lack of any narrative depth.)
