Ghost of Tsushima is the last game for Sucker Punch, will be 4 years since that released in July. Similar release cadence to God of War (2018) to God of War Ragnarok (2022) or Horizon Zero Dawn (2017) to Horizon Forbidden West (2022). Naughty Dog has also been faffing about with the cancelled multiplayer thing and rereleases but their last real game was The Last of Us Pt 2 (2020) and before that was Uncharted 4 (2016). Bend is 5 yrs out from Days Gone (2019).

Not going to bring up Insomniac cause they're an outlier Spider-Man (2018), Miles Morales (2020), Rift Apart (2021), and Spider-Man (2023).

Sucker Punch and Bend are most egregious to me, was absolutely expecting both to either announce or release SOMETHING this year.

While adding in rogue like modes are nice, would have been a lot happier with an expandalone for Ragnarok coming out this year. Miles Morales scale would be great to cover the gap between long release times.

Not even mentioning the Sony Santa Monica Sci Fi IP that Cory Barlog (edit, forgot his name) spun up after running God of War (2018) and any other new IP projects that have been hinted at. Or how about the 12 live service games Jim Ryan was so happy about.

Maybe any asynchronous turn based games - single or multiplayer should would work. There's technically a timer on your turn if multiplayer, but the turn is something like a day. Main things that come to mind on that are digital board games - Root or Spirit Island on Android are games I've had fun with that way.

American nightmare is probably well below Alan Wake 1 in terms of needing to know the story, they didn't even bother to remaster it when they did AW1. I'd generally say only go for it if you really like Alan Wake 1, don't think I've played it since early 2010s or so. I did watch the Alan Wake recap that Sam Lake put out prior to AW2. Think it's on IGNs YouTube channel and is around 10-15 min long and covers all of AW1, American Nightmare, and the Control DLC

I don't think Alan Wake 1 is necessary for playing Alan Wake 2, but it definitely adds to the experience considerably. It may longer be the case, but I think Epic Games Store was giving out the remaster of the first with a purchase of 2, but that may be a limited time thing that has expired.

Gameplay wise, AW2 is not really like either of the games you listed. I played RE4make right after AW2 and it took me a while to get in the swing that RE4make was an action game not a survival horror. Ammo is generally constrained throughout AW2 and there is constant threat that something is going to happen, along with semi regular jump scare type antics. I've talked to friends who liked other remedy games but couldn't stand the gameplay and thought it felt bad. Personally it didn't register with me, but your mileage may vary. Overall the story is the main draw to me, but the gameplay was not a negative.

It is absolutely my favorite game of the year, but that's not a unique position. I did play Alan Wake 1 and American nightmare when they originally released though, so not sure the response from someone who hasn't played them

There are a total of 2 missions that you play as MJ, and neither one is the painfully slow auto fail if spotted missions from Spidey 1. You're not nearly as agile as either Spider-Man, duh, but it's not monotonous like the first game. Would I like a whole game of the sneaking, probably not, but it was not an egregious buzz kill the way the author portrays it

Yeah, I think the workflow was borrow a book, then the Libby app had two options - read now or read on Kindle. Selecting read on Kindle would kick you to a Amazon page exactly like when you buy a book, and it'd automatically download to your Kindle the same way.

I was a fairly early adopter of e-readers, because family trips usually ended up with half the car filled with crates of books. Had a nook for a long time, but converted to the Kindle due to regular sales and concerns about B&N's long term health. Just got the new waterproof Paperwhite last year and I can't say enough good about it.

Was interested about that finger binary for counting cause I always have trouble keeping track of numbers, but feels super uncomfortable for me trying to just keep my ring finger up for 8 like you mentioned.

I forget when I learned it, but I use something similar to that to count to a max of 99 and feel that's good enough for me. Right fingers are 1, right thumb is 5, left fingers are 10, and left thumb is 50. Covers most of my bases.
