I agree that polymarket doesn't have any more credibility in this scenario. Honestly, I suspect it's slightly more accurate prediction has more to do with bias in the user base than anything.

And that probability isn't useful in this scenario. All it really applies to is predicting the accuracy of the polls since, for all intents and purposes, the outcome of the election is pre-determined by the voters.

Regardless, I know it's a long shot, but I'm really hopeful this amendment will push Florida over the line for Harris. Even in red states, abortion bans are deeply unpopular.

As a software engineer for a company that has virtually unlimited access to the latest AI tools, I can honestly say it's made very little difference in dev time.

It's nowhere near understanding the complexity and interdependencies of large codebases. All it's good for is spitting out small chunks of code that you have to double check anyway. It won't help you solve any of the difficult problems which end up taking most of the time.

I really don't like this, to be honest. There's already way too much money in politics, and while this isn't really "in" politics in the same way as PACs or "speaking gigs", it still adds another layer of financial stakes that don't consider the best interest of the average citizen.

I don't have any knowledge of the legal arguments for one side or the other, but from a purely ideological perspective, it feels like another straw on the back of democracy.

Totally agree. Nothing irks me more than the fact that paramount has, inarguably, one of the most iconic and impactful cinematic universes ever and does nothing but pump out mediocre generic sci-fi, at best. Or, more frequently, total garbage.

It really feels like whoever is making the decisions behind the scenes has never actually watched anything pre-Abrams Star Trek.

That's still near toss-up range to be fair. Last election, Trump had similar odds in his model and only lost by just over 100k votes combined in the 4 states that ended up deciding the election, despite losing the popular vote by 7 million.

If he hadn't sabotaged his own voters by deciding you shouldn't protect yourself from covid, he very likely could have won.

Not that it matters anymore, since we're in a completely different ballgame with Harris almost certainly the new nominee.

The betting markets didn't predict Biden stepping down. The changes were in response to a massively increasing pressure campaign for Biden to step down.

There's no "prediction" involved - just people seeing the possibility of Biden stepping down as more likely as more and more pressure was mounted by his own party and gambling that it was going to happen.

Betting markets can in no way predict the outcome of major political contests, regardless of whether or not experts weigh in. There are far too many unknown variables at play.

I had the same thoughts as you originally, but seeing the amount of support and donations for Harris in the last 24 hours genuinely changed my thoughts.

I don't see Harris doing any worse than Biden would have, and she has more room to grow upwards. How many people who were realistically going to vote for Biden won't vote for Harris? There aren't any valuable polls yet, obviously, but logically that voter would be exceedingly rare.

There's also the fact that age was a serious issue for many with both Trump and Biden. Age won't be an issue for Harris.

Personally, I think Harris has a very solid chance. 4 months is plenty of time in today's world to go on a campaign blitz and build up enough support to win enough swing states

They did indeed fake it. They stated in the video description, "lactency has been reduced...for the sake of brevity" - which is a wild understatement. They also very heavily implied that the AI was responding to the users voice and photo inputs in real-time, when in reality the whole thing was done manually and "reconstructed" into a smooth video.

Instead, the real demo was constructed from “still image frames from the footage, and prompting via text.”

Whether or not you consider this "faking it," it is undeniably intentionally misleading viewers. They were just using ordinary text and image inputs, but implying real-time conversation with an AI

Scratch this - I was reading what they used to do. Apparently it is speech to speech.

According to OpenAI's site - it uses 3 different models in a pipeline.

    - The first model is a simple model to transcribe your voice to text.
    - The second model to take the input text and reply with output text
    - The third model to take the output text and convert it to auduo.
