An ex of mine and I saw it in...I want to say 2009? 2010? We didn't know much about it; it was just in the area and we went. We were not expecting the amount of propaganda weaved into the performance. It was hardly a subliminal/hidden set of messages. We had assumed going in it was just going to be a kind of higher budget collection of traditional dances and neat chunks of history worth preserving.

Thanks for posting the article. I got a chance to remember a surreal experience I had pretty much forgot and understand a bit more about wtf I actually saw.

I always come back to Gladiator, but really only to shout 'ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED' when it is both applicable and not applicable to the situation. It holds a soft spot as being both 'just plain fun' and 'the first R-rated movie ticket my parents bought for me and a friend to watch unsupervised while under 17 and while we were really hoping there would be boobs there were no boobs but it was still good time' movie.

I think he's referring to the project veritas report perhaps. Either way, citation should be required for things that come off as subjective, so that instead of dismissing things outright I can do my due diligence and form a sound conclusion.

At the same time, one can't come to me with a printed map and tell me it's proof the earth is flat.

In the last few months, I have gotten through:

    • Artemis by Andy Weir. I didn't end up enjoying it for most of the reasons people have posted to GoodReads, so I won't rehash anything.
    • Waking Gods [Themis Files] by Sylvain Neuvel. I am enjoying this series. It's a pretty easy read and I just plain love the story
    • Finished the Faithful and the Fallen series (It was a pleasant surprise. I picked it up as on a whim during a vacation and got engrossed by it).
    • Been working through the Red Rising series (Currently on Book 4. I enjoyed Books 1-3 immensely. I'm not really enjoying book 4, but if I mention why I would have to give things away, so I'll leave it at that.

I've very much been enjoying the Stormlight Archives. The poor guy gets a lot of flack for taking on other projects (finishing Wheel of Time), but I get it. You can't just spend every waking moment writing this series. I'd be really disappointed if he ended up hate-writing it just to finish it so everyone leaves him alone rather than take his time and tell the story he wants to tell at his own pace.

Links and images speak for themselves. I had never seen these before and some of them are really super neat. In most of the American classic posters, Vader looms in the background. The first picture in the article puts Vader front and center...seems to perfectly encapsulate the cultural differences of "rooting for good to triumph over bad" vs "displays of power".

I had read and enjoyed this a long long time ago. I was pleased there was some follow up content below the original story. Regardless of the veracity, it's such a fun read.

I took keyboarding in High School (late 90s), and was taught that two spaces go after a period. The teacher would specifically check assignments to make sure that two spaces were used. It's taken me a long time to unlearn doing this, simply because it looks wrong (even though most of keyboarding was spent cutting and pasting content as quick as possible so we could go back to murdering each other in GTA II).

Everquest taught me to type anyway.
