Good. Unless you make the negative externalities of businesses hurt them in the wallet, they have zero incentive to actually tackle them. Factories get fined when they destroy a town's drinking water, and social media get sued when they turn a blind eye to a child spending 16 continuous hours on Instagram.

What's the betting there will be a sudden flood of innovation in the field of identifying child users and addictive scrolling behaviour, now that each addict is a potential million-plus hole in their finances?

If it's impossible to detect insider trading in prediction markets then that's a strong sign there shouldn't be prediction markets. Both casinos and stock markets have strict laws to ensure fairness, so either way you classify it, that kind of regulation is essential.

"I can't have distractions when I'm focusing on cooking so please stay in the other room"

Remind them of this if they set a toe in the room, say a word or start hovering from any distance. Doesn't have to be rude or confrontational, just spell out the problem to them: "you're crowding me / interrupting me".

I have to wonder how my own country would resist something like this - would we shut it down and prosecute, or would we collectively sigh "this is not normal" in opinion pieces and all wait for somebody else to do something? It'd keep you up at night.
