This was a challenge to summarise in a title, but what I am after is a discussion of songs or albums with sound detail and design with high complexity that is also enjoyable to listen to. Listening to songs that really push the speakers to their limit in terms of detail is a joy, one could argue that all music does this, but from my perspective some recordings really shine through when you listen to them with proper high-quality high fidelity speakers or headphones. Most classical music fall within this genres but there are plenty of other genres which are interesting.

    Some examples:
    CLARITY - Jacob Collier
Hand Covers Bruise - Trent Razor and Atticus Ross
Dream of Arrakis - Hans Zimmer
    Eyjafjallajökull - Nordlight

I hope I managed to make myself understood, if not I will try again! Anyways, what are your favourite complex pieces of music?

It’s weird reading how news outlets report on this. I’m Scandinavian as is most of my camp and our main worry was missing the flights, since we didn’t know how long it would take before they opened the roads again.

Compared to how it was presented though it was truly beautiful to see how most people really did everything they could to help each other out. The main challenge was not knowing how things would turn out. Most camps had both water and food, and the portapotties were serviced pretty much as usual. Had the rain lasted for more than two days it would have been a bigger challenge as I expect most camps could probably ration food and water for four or even five days if necessary. Thankfully it didn’t come to that, but it was a genuine worry there for a while when the rain continued on Saturday and a bit on Sunday.

A bit of a sideline but I had a first “waking up” experience with romance in The Sims (which is not really an RPG but almost kinda?) I was around 10 and playing the first original edition. I created two women characters and meticulously kept notes on their interactions, and to my surprise and excitement I got them to fall in love and kiss. It was a whole new world to me and really opened new vistas to what is possible. I wasn’t aware that I was gay at the time but it really helped shape and widen my view of what romance could be. I’m really thankful Maxis didn’t limit the possible outcomes to only heterosexual romantic interactions, especially since this was in the 90s early 00s.

I guess one would differentiate between a group based on political convictions and other groups of "non-choice-based" adherence such as gender, ethnicity, sexual preference etc.

That's a good point! I created my account just today so I have not had time to explore it yet! It's a curious model, as you mention, in comparison to how newspapers and magazines work. There is something to it, my guess is that writers get roughly the same amount of money, and most people spend probably the same amount they would on a traditional subscription, only that most people actually get access to much less content. The ones who benefit from this system are the few who basically only want to subscribe to one writer - the equivalent of paying a fraction but only being allowed to read one article, which of course doesn't work for traditional print media.

I have been (without paying attention) been reading more and more articles/op-eds etc from substack, usually linked from reddit or as of late, from here on Tildes. I decided to sign up and create an account for myself and found the list of suggested substacks to subscribe to fairly run-of-the-mill and not very enticing.

So, what are your favourite substacks? Which substacks raise topics new to you, challenge your perspectives, captures your attention for longer than intended?

I started writing a journal last year as a year-challenge-thing and quite enjoyed it. I searched around the web a bit for apps to fit the purpose, and in the end I actually ended up writing in the iOS native Notes app. I have a note that is stickied, so in times where I skip writing for a few days it's still kept at the top. It syncs with my phone and the note is kept stored online which is handy. The format is very basic, but at the same time, it's pretty much all I need. Whenever I make a new entry, I simply start at the top right above the previous entry. I've copied the full journal into a regular rtf file as a backup just in case.
