    Your asset bundle aMAZEing.pck is 202MiB. That's a lot.

I'm not looking for someone to do it for me, I just need a little guidance. I had no coding experience before this, so while I've read through pages like the one you linked (many times) I'm still struggling to internalize what's being said. So like, do you have a recommendation for which file type I should be using for the art images? I know there are tradeoffs for each, but where's the happy medium between image quality and size?

Ok, so. I'm trying to build a walk-through gallery for my art in Godot, link is where we're at so far. This is my first such project, and I'm very much still stumbling my way through, so please assume you're addressing any suggestions to a moron lol.

The Issues (roughly in order of importance):

-mouse capture(?): I think this is the term here, for using mouse movements to move the camera. It works fine in the editor, and it looks like (part of?) the code is there for it, but clearly something is missing. The player aspect was a prefab thing from the asset library, I did not code it myself. (With the player I'd also like to be able to handle stairs w/o jumping, but that's less important right now)

-black boxes: you can (hopefully) see the one jpeg that's loading correctly, and all those other black squares are supposed to be like that. It seems like this might be a known issue, with one suggestion being to resize to a multiple of 4.... Problem is 1) what/where exactly am I resizing, because I'm only seeing a scale transform option (and I assume we're taking pixels?), and 2) I tried resizing one that way (scale transform) to be the same as its neighbor (which was showing correctly) and now neither show.

-load time: it takes so long to load, and I feel like there must be something I'm doing wrong there, but I have no idea what I can cut out/change/do differently to make the whole thing less bloated.

-mobile controls: I haven't looked too much into this one yet, but might as well throw it in while we're at it.

Those are my current pain points, explained to the best of my ability. Happy to clarify if necessary, and just because I said I tried something doesn't mean I tried it correctly; no offense will be taken if we need to start with a "turning it off and on again" equivalent.

(Idk where to put this, or how to tag it, so mods feel free to move/change as desired)

    Thanks!

Honestly, I think the most important thing for all of these concerns is just letting her lead. Talk to her about about meds (and be as objective as possible); it's an option that she's free to choose, or not. It's an option that doesn't have to be all-or-nothing (she can take it as-needed, or everyday, or sometimes everyday, and then not for a while), and if you see she's struggling a casual "did you take your meds today?" to help her tie cause to effect (no judgement is important, so if the answer is no then a simple "ok" or "it might help a bit" is all that's needed from you). Help her keep track of her body (on and off meds, as unobtrusively as possible) to watch for side effects and such ("have you noticed if physical symptom happens when you do/don't take it?" "Is there anything you did differently today that you think might be causing it?" etc).

Just generally keeping lines of communication as open as possible is going to go a long way. At least, in hindsight that's what I wish I had had the most at her age. Being able to ask questions without getting shut down or punished would've been huge. Not saying you're not doing that already, just pointing it out.

Ok so now that I've commented on this one (and you've replied, not sure which had the effect) it does show up in my feed, with the #5 title and "5d ago" date. Same behavior though, title click leads to the first iteration, comments click goes to #5.

One other thing I noticed is that it's marked as "published on tildes.net," like it was linking to an article/external source. "Just chatting" type posts have the username of the poster, and no indication of link, so I think it has to do with how OP (@daychilde) posted originally that somehow broke the normal stream of how such posts are handled on the app.

@mycketforvirrad, if you're taking the mantle of this thread, would you be willing to post the next one as a stand-alone? And would linking previous iterations underneath/in the body of the post cause the same issues (assuming that's a thing that's wanted)? Like, if I'm wrong about the cause and this is just a me issue don't stress about it, I can just manually check for the new one once in a while, but I'm thinking it's probably an issue for anyone using the app.

    Question re: the recurring thread.

Anyone know why they don't show up in my feed? Even when I go to the ~health.mental section, the only title that comes up is the original one, and if I click that that's where it goes. If I click "comments" instead, it goes to the most recent iteration, but there's no other way I've found of getting there, and I can't get to previous ones (except the first). All other recurring topics seem to get their own stand-alone threads, and I'm not sure what's going on with this one in particular. It doesn't feel like a shadowban, but I guess it's possible (or is it? Is that a thing here)?

Using the Three Cheers app, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Edit: thanks everyone, I appreciate your help and explanations! :)

Haha and I'd love to give you such a take, but I've never read anything of his. From discussions I've heard/read he doesn't sound like my cup of tea, so I've just never bothered. My TBR pile is always huge, and I read a lot, so if it's hard sci-fi or high fantasy I'll typically pass unless it's strongly recommended by someone who knows me and my tastes exceptionally well. No shade to those who like him, just to be clear.

I'm not huge on most genre fiction, maybe that's why he doesn't click for me. As for Lovecraft, I assume you mean the whole "he was a bigoted asshole irl, and you can see it in his work" thing?...

Because yeah, fair, the man was afraid of everything and everyone, but he's still a massive cultural touchstone and his work is worth reading imo.

That may mean that you hide when you're overwhelmed in such a way that it negatively impacts your health, social life, and more.

And you very well may not realize you're hiding anything! People often seem to think masking is a strictly conscious activity, but that's usually not the case. It takes a lot of practice to unmask, and that practice can feel like "faking it" until you realize that the "performative behaviors" are helping you be more comfortable in your own skin. 20+ years of being conditioned to sit still and be quiet is a lot to get past.

Like, what's the benefit of faking autism?

And yet there are so many people who think this is just a thing that happens all the time. For attention, I guess? I do find it hilarious that those same people often come out with "everyone has that specific issue! I have that issue too and you don't see me labeling myself about it," when a) no they don't, and b) maybe you don't have to struggle with it either? Let yourself claim the label and thus be more comfortable taking steps to alleviate the discomfort! Or at least stfu and let other people do what they need to do to feel better. Professional diagnosticians make mistakes all the time, and a self dx harms literally no one, even if it ends up being incorrect.

Start with Borges. He is the absolute master of surreal short stories, and once you're familiar you'll start seeing little references in just about any other weird/Weird/absurdist/bizarro/surreal content you find.

Mieville's The City and the City is fun, but Last Days of New Paris is better imo (I don't much like 'who dunnits' though, so most of his other stuff doesn't click with me the way I want it to).

    Lovecraft is the classic, obviously.

    Murakami can get pretty weird.

Barthelme is one I never see recommended, but I love him. Very short stories, very strange.

House of Leaves is a masterpiece, but don't expect the same level from anything else he's done.

Gogol is a blast. Kafka if you haven't yet.

(I may come back with more, Weird Shit^tm is my jam lol)

Edit: The Way Through Doors and Diver's Game by Jesse Ball, and The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall.

Isaac Babel, all of which can be found in a single volume.

Edit 2: Junji Ito if you want some gorgeous, intricate visuals with your fucked up body horror.
