Indie filmmakers will try new stuff, plus that A24 studio are good at producing films that have the tropes but will alter them a bit to seem fresher. Japanese and Korean filmmakers are also interesting because their style differs a lot from the Western ones.

I think maybe the horror genre is the only area I see trying new things, but that's not an area the general audience tend to watch. Also, those movies usually aren't in theaters.

What stopped me from doing anything was: a) having a cat that needed me; b) feeling stubborn about giving my family something that would make people feel sorry for them; and c) realizing that this terrible moment I've feeling may go away. I fought hard to maintain the idea that one day I would get better. "This is just a moment" was basically my mantra
Now as an adult, I have people who keep me level, and I take an anti-depressant that helps take the edge off things. I realize I will never have a brain that works the same way others do, but I've learned to accept it. I love the small moments in my life, and when things get bad, I focus on these to pull me back out of the abyss. I'm good at detecting the spiral and have learned to ask for help when it starts. In short meds and support have greatly reduced the idealization I used to live in.

It's been my favorite since I was a kid, but it is increasingly becoming more and more difficult to find.
If not that, a mix of dark chocolate and mocha. Bonus if there are brownie bites.
At home I get plain vanilla and add hot fudge.

Comment on Is there any book that you keep trying but can not get through? in ~books
lamentforicarus Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. Conceptually, it should be a book I love, but I can't get past the halfway mark. His writing in general is rough for me as I find his characters much too flat....Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. Conceptually, it should be a book I love, but I can't get past the halfway mark. The other is, and don't hate me, but The Hobbit and all of the LotR. It inspired so much of fantasy, but my guy could not give up the descriptors. I am not surprised going on a walk with him was an all-day affair.

I also tend to pick up various whole beans when I am out and about, like if a local place has their own brew or whatnot, but I just moved to a new place and haven't had a chance to explore.
People are going to hate me saying this, particularly parents, but having a child will always be a selfish decision in my mind. We could live in a lovely world, and I would still believe it is selfish because at the end of the day, you are choosing to bring someone in the world for your own desires. You want to be a parent. You want to make the world better through your child. You want to continue your bloodline. Etc. Etc. Etc. That child, however, has no choice. They are literally forced into the world. They could be happy about it, but it's still based on a selfish decision made by the parents.
The exception to this, of course, being situations in which women are forced into pregnancy and/or are not allowed to abort it.
This isn't necessarily good or bad, mind. It just is.
