My setup is a Netgear Nighthawk (CM2000) modem with three Amplifi Alien routers across the house on a gigabit internet connection. I've been really pleased with this setup and haven't regretted skipping the 2.5Gb port.

My story might be a little different once faster internet options pop up in my area, but don't see it on the horizon yet.

I've also used Namecheap for longer than I can remember (except the TLD they don't register), but switched public DNS to Microsoft 365 and Cloudflare years ago. I haven't looked seriously at Route 53, does it have advantages over Cloudflare outside of private networks within AWS?

My perspective on the Namecheap brand is that it sounds dated and could give the impression that they're a low quality registrar or service provider, but it doesn't matter because they have great brand equity. It would be nice if the account pages when logged in weren't also stuck in the early-2000s, though...

I'm thinking along the same line...there isn't much going on with the 15 Pro that would benefit me over the 14 Pro, so it feels like an incredibly expensive incremental upgrade.

My kids shower at least every other day (if they'd do it without argument, I'd have them shower every day). ngl I'm a little grossed out when I learn someone doesn't shower relatively frequently, but generally don't care much besides not wanting to smell or touch them (or things they've touched).

It doesn't exactly fit the context of this thread, though my experience using paid search has been really positive, starting with Neeva before it disappeared. There are some very reasonably-priced alternatives, such as Perplexity, that are worth trying using their free plan. So far, I have been pleased with those I have used.

FWIW, I switched to Waldo, but it is ridiculously expensive if only using it for search. Its value is as a research tool to deep dive into specific subjects, data, and information, but I also use it for 100% of the simple searches I otherwise would have used Google for, which is a nice benefit.

I have lost so much data over time it doesn't even bother me anymore. Some data I would never be able to recover or find again, so I've reset my expectations and significantly reduced my data footprint. Long way of saying I would rather lose my data than have no way to use the data.

That said, I do also have backups of critical data (like taxes and banking) in multiple cloud storage locations...that data is more important to me, but can be (painfully) recovered if it does vanish.

Anecdotally, my experience has been that Bing and DuckDuckGo still produce worse search results than Google, so I'm not sure if the dominance of Google Search can really be questioned yet, even if it has diminished.

With the type and quality of content Google surfaces now, especially the social content it pushes, though, along with the ads, I've switched to a paid search provider - who also leverages AI (which I suppose everyone says now, it's the new hot thing!) - and am much happier with the experience.

Never tried their large-screen products, but I would guess they are the same quality as those I do have.

Having said that…there are lots of other great alternatives suggested here without such a premium price tag.

(FYI, you’re right about color screens. They are great for browsing but not high-quality or resolution images in my experience.)

If the same cavalier approach is taken with decisions affecting this, there will be crashing, fire, sirens in the distance.

In all seriousness, I absolutely agree about the monetization problem. Monetization alone doesn't do anything without a community to support it. We're not all able to spend our problems away. A carefully cultivated community built over time leads to sustainable monetization paths. Forcing a community into existence doesn't. Every major social platform has started with community and a platform where people can feel they belong, and that interaction or activity is meaningful.

EDIT ...and ruining that community is easy and possibly irrecoverable (thanks, Digg!).

I haven't been following it recently, but I wonder how over the protest is; i.e., what their internal metrics might show wrt daily active users and engagement, especially their most prolific content creators. Most probably didn't even know there was a protest outside of /r/pics. My wife didn't know and didn't care when I told her what was going on.

Personally, though, I stopped using Reddit entirely because I didn't agree with their initial handling of the API pricing change or their response to the community. At $14/month for two accounts, my contribution (or lack of it) isn't even a blip though...

I suspect some of it is perception of having no job security, lack of affordable housing, media reports of job losses, corporate insolvency, beginning of the age of AI, unions striking, etc.

It could be self-fulfilling, but if we’re seeing country-wide trends with measurable and appreciable impact, maybe it is a sign of a broader problem and not individual perception.

If people lose trust in economic viability or sustainable employment, their budgets, spending, or debts will be impacted.

I suppose my thoughts on that are a similar, plus some extra cynicism…

That so many feel the same way, that he will not be held accountable if convicted of a crime, along with many other recent events, seems to speak to a general lack of confidence in our judicial - and maybe entire democratic - process.

I’m also skeptical of a meaningful outcome, and terrified of a possible future in which he is elected again.

But let’s be honest: no former President will be jailed, barred from election, or disenfranchised. No matter the crime, guilt, conviction. Even one who has created a dangerous and divided nation.

Apparently, except maybe revolutionaries, no one planned for a crisis of our entire system of government: no judicial oversight, unchecked presidential powers, and a generally disinterested or incompetent legislature.
