Need to read Judas Unchained by Peter F Hamilton next to finish the story started in Pandora's Star. Putting it off as I really didn't get on with his writing.

I have mine set to show percentage at the bottom of the page. It's not quite as nice a visual motivator as seeing an irl bookmark but after a bit it works pretty much the same for me.

Yes I can definitely see why it's not necessarily recommended as the best starting point. I will read another, not sure which yet.

Just finished The Mote in God's Eye. It's... interesting. The story is pretty good but oof, it's very old fashioned which feels quite at odds with the future setting. Mainly in regards to the patriachical society and monarchy. But I did enjoy it though I thought the ending to be a bit weak. Also feels like it could've been trimmed a little. The book's title is a stunner though.

Just started Pandora's Star. Only about 10% in. Some good world building so far and I'm intrigued. Who doesn't like a Dyson sphere?

For film it would be Social Network. Lots of great tracks on that. For games it's probably FTL for me. It got me into electronic music a lot more.

Don Cheadle was left for dead on Mars way before Matt Damon!

I don't hate Waterworld either. But not nearly as good as The Postman imo.

I'm the same with Mission to Mars. It's somehow so good. Looks like I'm going to have to check out Red Planet then!

The Postman. Heavily slated but there's just something about the story that I like. Dystopia man saves world by pretending to be a postman.

It's based on comics by Jacques Tardi in case you didn't know. They're really good and worth a read.

Poking around I found this: https://classicdoom.com/hosted/lpalin/moderndm.htm. Might help? Also there's things like GZDoom that might suit better.

There's a plot point that is audio based so works well in an audiobook. I've not listened to it myself but I can imagine it being great having read the book.
