As a whole, I think Windows is as secure as the other OS. Privacy might be the same or worse than on the Mac. Same as the Mac, Windows can't really be easily customised if you prefer some other workflow. Windows will also eventually change how things look & work and there's not much you can do about it. Finally, in the past Windows have done forced updates and reboots (I don't know how they are handled today).
-
I guess you can disable or uninstall most of the unnecessary apps, block the Windows data collection using 3rd-party apps (WindowsSpyBlocker etc.), monitor & block unwanted network traffic and maybe run the OS on a virtual machine. However, I feel like that's a lot of work and in the end there might be some functionality that will be broken.

I really like Lenovo laptops but I'm not sure if there is one with the specs you require. Gaming laptops might be the best option in this case.

Simple, small, easy to read, relatively cheap, runs on solar, pretty durable and the only time it might need any input from the user is when the month changes.
By changing the strap, you can make it adapt to different situations (going hiking, wearing a suit etc.)
IMO a perfect everyday watch. The only thing I would like to see is a titanium version. -

Samsung phones and pads seem to be, in my fairly limited experience, some of the most difficult devices to get the LineageOS working.
I'm currently running Samsung Galaxy S10e with an unofficial build and the setup was really annoying and I have to essentially wipe the whole phone if I want to update. -

Before that you would have to create a new database, add a new account entry, right clicking on the entry and selecting to "Set up TOTP". -

Personally, I don't use the browser extension because the auto-type feature works so well. It even works with other software or games outside your browser. -

Currently I'm using Matrix.org for my main messaging service because it's secure, open source, decentralized, respects your privacy, works on most platforms and you can host your own server.
Signal is my second go to messaging service and I'm only using it with people who I don't mind sharing my phone number with. It's a bit easier for people to use than Matrix.org and ease of use seems to be the top feature on everyone's list. -
I would like everyone to switch to Matrix.org because I genuinely think it's the best option currently available.
-
IMO Matrix.org currently offers a pretty realistic way of convergence because of the Matrix.org bridges. You can bridge different messaging services together and use all of them from the Matrix.org client.

In the study they say Google gathers data on the LineageOS and on the /e/OS they do not. The /e/OS is a fork of the LineageOS and it uses the MicroG implementation of the Google services. I wonder why they have installed the OpenGapps on the LineageOS instead of the MicroG that /e/OS uses, and if that's the reason LineageOS gets worse results.
By default, the LineageOS does not come with OpenGapps or with MicroG.
Are the people who made the study trying to make the /e/OS look better than the LineageOS on purpose? Are they incompetent? Or, is there another reason for the results?
