Funny thing about adding the newer SPYlish to my portable browser: I had only used that ff profile to search mozilla for various privacy-related addons... so it kinda makes me hope the spylish spooks DO look at that history. :p

Asking because I used the older versions while they were still in the hands of the original owner*, and I'm curious if there's proof showing that stylish was compromising users' data/privacy even then.
*The exception to this was a test I did last month with one of the newer, data-sucking versions of Stylish on a portable ESR profile. The checkbox to NOT send data to the developers never stuck; i.e., every time I closed & reopened that (portable) profile, that checkbox was enabled.

Just to add, if we post a certain thing that doesn't already exist here - like specific content or topics - we're opening the chance for other members to express interest in those things. Who knows, your photo albums could even spur on the creation of a new group...!
This is new, fresh territory. It's ripe for people like you with new content and ideas. :)

Comment on 500px will no longer allow photographers to license their photos under Creative Commons, and closes 500px Marketplace in ~creative

It really sucks that photographers will no longer be able to set CC terms - AND that their Creative Commons works won't be downloadable or searchable anymore. They say that photographers can opt out of 500px's new global distribution terms... but none of that makes amends for the dedication and talent those photographers contributed to 500px beforehand.
Also, these new changes came about with very short notice. It's terrible, and unfair...
500px says that... the reason for the shift was that they weren’t seeing a lot of activity with Creative Commons images...
Yeah, okay. CC has been a ubiquitous source for everything from wikis to articles for many years. My cynical side says this decision was actually about dollars versus demand.

The implications of both this article and its source goes well beyond whether we see ads or not: it's more so about the extremely invasive technology behind this new patent.
It's already creepy that external devices can command our phones to record audio around us without our knowledge. Yet, for me the biggest implication that I rarely see anyone discuss is that even if you're privacy-conscious, none of your individual efforts matter. Like, you can install all the privacy-oriented browsers, adblockers, noscript addons, and VPNs to your heart's content - but since the world around us isn't doing that, we're constantly being identified by others' lack of precautions.
Like, people constantly have their smart devices out while saying stuff to me like, "Hey, can I talk to you privately? PLEASE keep this to yourself..." And then they talk with their phones out while everything is being sucked up. :|
This FB patent involving a unique id will be assigned to every device owner from which it gleans recorded audio. That's gonna be combined with the current abilities of geo location, contact list gathering, et cetera. It makes me wonder if "speaking in private" in modern society actually exists anymore...

These quotes are disturbing:
"It allows Facebook to conceal ‘a non-human hearable digital sound’ in the audio of a TV ad or other content."
"Although people won’t be able to hear this sound, it contains a ‘machine recognizable’ set of Morse code-style sounds which [causes] your smartphone... to begin recording.
First of all, if the execution is sneaky, then so are the intentions. Facebook's ostensible purpose for this tech is that it lets them "monitor what people watch..." for the sake of ads' relevance.
Even so, being monitored to the point that our background noises are "analysed to generate an ‘ambient audio footprint’" - and then having that information stored along with identifying information about the device owner - is a dangerous level of surveillance.
The ambient-related data even gives information like whether the viewer walked away from the device or not, and it gives an "accurate sense of the size of the audience". From a privacy standpoint, none of that sits well with me.
These quotes really caught my attention regarding how perfect strangers treat each other online:
Chen also mentioned that when the tests included 4 players max, the players "create[d] situations" where someone was left behind, causing the one left behind to feel isolated. "Created situations" is the key phrase here for me: it indicates planned action versus an organic separation.
Though Chen never gives specifics about the 'disturbing' events to which he referred, it still makes me wonder what it is about humanity in general that spurs people on— in a game, no less— to isolate others even when the game itself offers no benefit for doing so.
One commenter on this article nailed my sentiments exactly on the head:
Just think how much of the negative interactions discovered making Journey is applicable to the workplace, the home, the school, the internet. Give people a thumbs up and a thumbs down and they choose the thumbs down, or the insult, or the sarcastic dig. Always complaining how wrong everyone else is.
