There's a lot of fake or misleading information out in the world that people believe regardless of whether or not AI exists. I have had plenty of human teachers teach me wrong things during my childhood that I believed until I was proven wrong. I think LLMs hallucinate because people 'hallucinate' and get confused too.

I personally don't understand why an AI crawler would even want the information from some blog post by some Joe Schmoe in the first place, especially over something like scientific journals. Which leads me to believe they must weigh the data they train on, rather than simply dumping it all into a single massive set they give equal 'truth' to? I have little idea how AI training works or how they'd program something like 'truth' but I have to imagine there's some sort of guardrail there? maybe? hopefully?

The one on HDDs was also fascinating, and helped me even as homelabber/Linux enthusiast better understand the hardware engineering, which leads to just a better general understanding of hard drives in general.

They're on Nebula as well for those who subscribe!

Looney Tunes is a huge American cultural monument. I hate to see the way we're going, head first into a cultural paywall.

I use it because blades are cheaper and I have more options to choose from. The cartridge razors without fail would give me the worst irritation on my neck which led me to have a beard for 10 years or so. My theory was the multiple blades probably contributed to it. One blade has proven more than fine for me.

I also still use black and white film in analog cameras, and play music on vinyl.

The goal for Disney, Netflix, Apple and company is to make physical media go obsolete. I hate to say this, but that’s where we’re headed. This comes a year after Best Buy announced that they would stop selling physical media in their stores, and only a month after Sony announced it will cease production of Blu-ray discs and other physical media.

That's a money making opportunity they're losing out on because they believe it will enable more control in the future of the media we consume. What I would do to go back to the days of picking out a DVD to buy and add to our collection at home. I would think a move like this would just make people turn to piracy.

I'm afraid Apple and the like will ultimately get their way with DRM protected everything. What's next on the chopping block? Physical books? Feels like we are already on our way there.

Apple paves the way with hardware, look at headphone jacks. I'm afraid they'll ultimately pave the way with this too.
