Kandaras said that "one thing we've learned is that frequent, fast, all-day service," such as light rail and bus rapid transit "has been much more resilient than express buses, which head to downtown from the suburbs in the morning and back in the evening."

This seems completely logical and honestly express bus usage is unlikely to return to previous levels without a significant shift in return to office expectations.

A large number of express bus riders were professionals going downtown to avoid traffic, contract parking fees, or buying a second car. With current partial in-office expectations for many professionals, there is little incentive to use the express bus as it does not save a significant amount of money.

Previously, a monthly prepaid express pass was a notable savings over parking and gas when going in to the office daily. Buying the pass pre-tax was even more beneficial. I recently calculated what the potential savings would be with going to the office for 50% time and the individual ride fee did not save anything versus driving and paying early bird parking rates, without a contract. To avoid traffic I just go in extra early, leave early, and log in at home to finish end-of-day things.

    edit: clarified express bus usage

Improvements are on top of that.

You will need to replace screens, that one weird window, the dead bathroom fan, and get that fixed plumbing brought up to code once some touches it for a water heater and it is no longer grandfathered in.

These things come in large bursts. Best to build it up regularly. Yes, everything will cost more than you expect when it is urgent.

    Edit plumbing, not numbing

IMO access to contraception should be as simple and affordable as possible.

Notwithstanding, there are medical considerations that need to be taken into account when selecting type of hormonal contraception. My girls have a 50% chance of inheriting a genetic clotting disorder which makes some types of hormonal BC much riskier if they inherited the gene. This is something they need to discuss with a doctor to make an informed choice. We have been warned not to do genetic testing as it can have an impact on future interactions with insurance (yeah US healthcare dystopia).

That complicates things for them, but I am wondering how many others have potential risk factors that can impact the type of BC they use which are never considered due to the lack of access, interest, or privacy to discuss everything with a doctor.

edit: added privacy as a reason they may not discuss considerations with a doctor

Gophernet from the local university and the local BBS directory from the library had very normal communities which were generally nice from the late 80s forward. Most were for a single topic such as a specific hobby, news and gossip for a zip code, or the occasional conspiracy theorists rantings so not much different than subreddits.

BBS were obviously much smaller than online communities now and when someone was being abusive (etc) they were quickly handled by an admin. It kept things much more pleasant due to the smaller scale.

For nostalgia of the old computer communities, we had a local BBS that was all about trading unlocked shareware games.

Basically, you posted what you wanted and what you had and either you would do a direct trade or the occasional convoluted 10 people all trading some intermediary step to swap your game for someone else’s. Then you would drop your trade-off at the library and pick up your exchanged disks.

It felt all cloak and dagger as a child since I knew we were circumventing the shareware concept and had a whole anonymous drop-off system.

I would never put a disk from some random anonymous person in a computer these days. Nor a random file downloaded from social media.

It is single player and has a demo so free to check out.

Edit so the demo is in gog.com and not Steam:
