Yeah I've really enjoyed the singles, yet to listen to the full album yet but feels a bit like 2000 all over again.

You can use something like cloudflare tunnels to host external applications, it's controversial but you don't need to open any ports. I personally use it for audiobookshelf without any issues.

I second KISS, search based, super quick & FOSS.

I love how it has reduced the frequency of checking my phone and just browsing my apps when I'm bored. Now I need to search for exactly what I want, screentime has gone down.

Tags also make folders obsolete so don't feel you lose any functionality to normal launcher other than widgets (while they do support it doesn't work as well for this launcher type imo).

One gripe is very occasionally it bugs out on my pixel 7, can't search & need to hard reset the launcher. It's rare but not great in a pinch/emergency etc.

I need to do a better job at documenting and submitting the bug but it's so rare so I have not managed to yet.

Reposting a comment from HomebrewTea from the verge article linked as it summaries my thoughts to a tea and I'm on mobile:

Why does nobody think we can read? Even this article seems to be skipping over what was literally typed out between the quotation marks. Saying you've never before used user content for "gen Ai" in the past tense, has nothing to do with the fact that they did say that they would be giving themselves permanent access to all content that touches any Adobe software for both human review and machine learning. Permanently giving them permission to use private user content that isn't in the public domain for company benefit. Just because you say users own their content, doesn't change the fact that you made it a condition for the use of your software, that people had to agree to, to also give you total access to all content regardless.
I'm excited to see this new TOS rollout, I wanna know if they're gonna actually change the fact that they essentially gave themselves permanent admin level permissions in regards to user content, or if they'll just change the words around so that they're too confusing for most people to be upset about it.

However it's fun to tinker with hardware/ software and learn, it's worth the time to me (like all hobbies should be otherwise they're just chores).

I'm also a firm believer in privacy and love the fact that I own my data, big tech can't use it to train AI or whatever is coming up next.

Note however; If you partake in the seven seas there can be considerable cost savings vs how ever many multiple streaming services you need these days to watch media from different sources.

I was using a 5G router for some time and couldn't even open ports as the firmware was locked down. So I ended up using CloudFlare encrypted tunnels for some services, they're dead easy to set up and free. Can't stream video over them but audiobookshelf and things like nextcloud had no issues.

    Hobby: Self Hosting

Anywhere from a raspberry pi + some storage to a second hand optiplex SFF with some decent specs will be more than enough to get started.

Find some services you'd find useful, examples: jellyfin, audiobookshelf, home assistant, nextcloud, NAS services.

Pick an OS, my 1st was Ubuntu as I was a Linux noob and there are millions of resources.

Learn docker compose, portainer makes it easy.

And bam, you'll have local network services up and running in an afternoon.

Yeha I'm so glad to see it with USB C, we're getting there!

I was referring to this project local send.

However it's not really applicable to this thread as it's more about sharing on the fly, getting people to download an app defeats the point.

For my own devices at home and work though local send is awesome.

Yeha I love signal, can't complain about it at all.

For more than a couple files, local send or portable SSD.

    From a later thread.

OK so I just got off a call with the DPC - the strategy has worked, it has been noticed and they are investigating.

They have received a lot of complaints since I went public with mine yesterday which is starting to overwhelm their backlog.

So I am now politely asking if people can pause on sending in further complaints until mid next week to give them a chance to try to resolve this issue.

So hold off for now I guess.
