Rather surprising to see so many negative opinions on 2FA, on the reason of inconvenience no less. A badly implemented 2FA is no different from website of software with bad UI, deal with it, or don’t. But in this day and age any service that requires an account but don’t offer 2FA I consider it a security risk.

After reading your comments and thinking about it some more, I think I agree with you that it's not as bad as it sounds, for now. This is an obvious conflict of interest, manpower is finite, fire suppression materials are finite, water is finite. Maybe they do have enough resources and it's not a problem this time, but what about next time?

It's also different in the parity you drew with bodyguards. Billionaires hire bodyguards because they are potential targets, which is a problem unique to them. Fire, on the other hand, aren't quite as picky. And this entire thing gives off a distinct vibe that the lives and properties of billionaires are more important than normal people such as you and me. And that is why I am not ok with this.

    Two things are true:

    1. Porn is not the biggest problem kids are facing these days.
    2. These laws will do absolutely nothing, it's at best a gesture, at worst a targeted attack.

Obviously you don't want to feed endless porn to your 8-year-old, but wouldn't that be far more effective as a parental control measure? Kids nowadays are smarter than ever, you really think you can stop 8-year-olds learning python already from figuring out how to get to porn? Have better education instead of forcing religious dogma into curriculum, teach parents to do their jobs better, that's the answer. Not some laws that will do just about nothing other than posturing.

This is not a problem unique to Valve (other than perhaps the scale of it), and in my opinion any platform that allows people to attach monetary value to virtual currencies should be banned or very heavily regulated.

When I used to play WoW maybe 8 years ago, some of my more hardcore guildies were betting on world first runs. Sure, they were using in-game gold for bets, which was not against ToS, but the in-game cold gold can be turned into WoW tokens, which can then be used to purchase game subscription and other cash shop items, effectively giving it real world value.

With major game studios buying their way into more profit and out of troubles, I’ll take anyone who’s willing to stand for consumers, even if we don’t know for how long.

having a couple cosmetics be really expensive is a win-win

I cannot agree with this. I quit WoW back in Shadowlands 9.1, and the increasing cost of everything in the shop was one of the reasons. One of the reason to playing MMO, for me personally, is the drive to collect as many things from the game as I can. When a good portion of those things cost as much as other regular games it drove me off.

Need I remind you that WoW is not a free game? You pay for the game, for the expansion, and for the subscription. To have a cash shop on top of all that is already questionable, to have something in the cash shop more expensive than most AAA games? There is only one word for this: greed.

Sure, I am not arguing that Americans are not particularly violent, I think it's a fair statement to say that we are. But that doesn't change anything. Sure if we can implement better education and better mental health support, we can aim to become a better society in general, but these kinds of systemic changes won't come tomorrow. Even with successful education policy and mental health solutions we won't see results likely until a decade later. Why not consider solutions that will at least have SOME positive impact now?

But you are being contrarian, and I think we should try and stay away from whataboutism. Not to mention a truck speeding down the street at 70M/h is still much easier to spot and potentially dodge than a bullet.

I think it's reasonable to say that:

    1. If guns were hard to acquire we will have less people dying because of guns.
    2. If guns were hard to acquire, then during violent crimes we will have less people dying, period, assuming perpetrator has no access to more lethal weapons.

Anyone who works in security field will tell you that you need multiple layers of solutions when dealing with a complex problem, each layer targeted a certain aspect of the problem and hopefully contribute to a certain percentage of the overall solution, and combined together hopefully get you to an ideal state. So if we truly value human lives as a society there should be no reason not to start implementing gun control, instead of day dreaming about better mental health support that we may or may not see results from in 5 or 10 years.
