Both use the wider Iberian gauge, with Spain sprinkling in a few lines of Standard gauge for interoperability with the rest of the EU. The problem lies most likely with train control systems. Spain uses ETCS while Portugal works with CONVEL and has only awarded the contract to upgrade to ETCS within the last two years, meaning there is still plenty of work to be done.

There's no useful train from Portugal to Spain, everyone complains about this, nothing is getting fixed.

Oh yeah, no criticism on the movie itself. I for one love hanging out at the back of the train, watching the world zoom by at 160 km/h. Just thought the article was a bit funny.

Either BART is really something so great it's beyond my comprehension or this article is a bit dramatic. Can't help but smile a little when I see the author fanboying over it:

“Otherworldly” is the right word. With their metal pipes and stained concrete walls, BART tunnels look like something out of a steampunk lair. As the train screams past regularly spaced fluorescent lights, the tunnel pulses with an orange glow; in the distance, light from the tunnel's mouth flares in the shape of a star. And finally, there’s the sound: a dull, grinding hum, constant but endlessly modulating.

Or the interviewee describing it as something that could only have been built a long time ago

Who could imagine a construction project as costly, complex and ambitious being approved today?

It's a metro system, not a spaceship. Every city in the world that matters at least a bit has something like it. Many of them are constantly being upgraded as lines are created or appended. It's not like it's been constructed using means not available today.

I know public transit in America is a cruel joke in most places but Californians losing their minds over trains is still a little funny.

Hi! Yes! Just finished my (EASA) PPL here. I don't think we have big enough of a community yet (in the thread linked by mycketforvirrad most people claim to be enthusiasts or sim pilots) to talk about getting quality advice like we used to on Reddit, but I hope that with time we will get there.

Sadly, flying as a hobby is not as popular here as it is in the US with most people seeing general aviation as means to getting through training, then straight to airlines. I would love to visit the US one day just to have a feel of what it's like over there.

The fact that Threads' launch has been halted in the EU is either telling that Meta is out to gather their users' data or that the EU has unclear rules on how federated social media should operate to be in compliance with the GDPR (intuition suggests the former as being more likely). Either way, I'm glad that until it's clear how they want to operate this app they won't be allowed here.

Well at least that's good. Still, it falls victim to centralization. All the posts you make on Threads will be hosted on Facebook's servers, who will at the end of the day decide what to do with them. Same goes with big Mastodon instances owned by corporations, but in the case of Threads you also get your data stolen for no additional charge!
