Definitely true. Normies have better things to worry about.

I suppose this really depends on your definition of the word 'Normies'. I would personally consider normies as people who don't care about electric cars, especially in 2017 when Tesla attracted more tech savvy and often more progressive and socially conscious consumers.

Now you're in conspiracy land. Outside of a few loonies, the people who buy new Teslas are those who heard Tesla was the hot electric car company in 2017 and then never checked the state of the industry. Tesla had already cemented itself as THE electric car company for them.

I'm failing to see the conspiracy. Anecdotally I know a few people who were previously indifferent to Musk pre-X who now praise and support him specifically for his anti-trans views. They have discussed buying Teslas for this reason. If you met or knew them you'd be hard pressed to consider them anything other than 'Normies', not the loonies you're describing.

I can imagine a scenario where someone can be disconnected from the news and completely absent from social or traditional media, thereby missing any of this political context of the last six years. I know people like this, though I'd argue buying electric vehicles is not something they remotely care about.

Agreed. It was Elon's public image that originally drew me to Tesla years ago. He seemed genuinely interested in shaking up and improving the industries he was involved in and I saw potential in spacex as a vehicle for advancing space exploration.

It's interesting to think if Elon had been more restrained in the public sharing of his ideas I may still have been a supporter of his companies. Surely there are plenty of other companies with problematic CEOs that I don't worry about because I'm not constantly exposed to their insane thoughts and whims. I don't believe consumer-side activism works and instead look to regulation and enforcement of white collar crime laws (pipe dream I know) to keep these lunatics reigned in.

As Elon has continued to show his cards, promoting anti-Semitic posts and unblocking Nazi accounts, being anti workers rights and anti trans and anti 'woke', making tech promises with long past delivery dates that never materialized (boring tunnels, AI Android, electric big rigs, Mars mission...), etc. I've gone from low-key fanboy to having disdain for this thin-skinned man who is less genius and more just lucky as he continuously fails upward.

I know better than to assign Elon's values to all Tesla owners as many of them purchased before his public transformation, but i couldn't help but feel that new owners not only are indifferent to his policies but actually buying to vice-signal them. Like it or not his public persona is now part and parcel with the Tesla brand.

I love this idea! Moving away from Reddit last year to Tildes has been such a freeing experience. I don't doom scroll anymore. I enjoy the closer knit feeling of this community and get more from the comments here. I also use Ground News for my news but sometimes find the lack of comments frustrating as my inner monologue processes the absurdity of some of the stories.

RSS feeds sound right up my alley and remind me of the old newsgroups I browsed in the 90's. So I guess my questions are: what are RSS feeds to you and why do like them? Also, what programs/apps do you use? I'm not necessarily looking for a step by step tutorial but as you've clearly put some time and thought into this I'm just hoping to glean some insight into how to approach it. Thanks!

When my wife and I were looking for daycare options they were few and far between. We basically took the only spot we could find and it was awful. Our infant was locked in a small room (like 20' x 40') with several other kids and a handful of toys for 9 hours a day, and 1 hour outside after lunch. The staff looked absolutely miserable.

I was complaining to my apprentice one day about how shitty it was and he told me his mom ran a daycare out of her basement and gave me her number. We loved it. Besides costing $400 less per month, we just really liked her vibes and her care style. She provided healthy snacks so we only needed to provide lunches, they spent alot of time outdoors, daily hikes etc. We created lasting friendships with some kids and their parents there.

I did some electrical work for a Montessori before our child was born and I loved what I saw there. So much so that once I learned we were expecting I immediately filled out the application forms for their preschool program, and we had to decide on a name before birth to fill out the forms. They had a 3+ year waitlist.

Given all that, it sounds like we would have liked your setup as well, and learning based curriculum would have been a valued bonus. Maybe you need some marketing? Colourful sign on the road? Hopefully you find the kids you need. Good luck.

Thanks for the detailed response. I always sort of viewed my past anime experiences as, well, past, and your response and this thread has motivated me to rewatch my old favourites and maybe even explore others mentioned here.

I had an interesting relationship with the Monster series which I largely forgot about before this conversation. I originally pirated it around 2005 and instantly fell in love. It doesn't have a ton of spectacle the way Akira or FMA 03 does, it's much more of a drama that could easily have been live action instead of anime. It's very good story telling.

I had worked through the series until around 65 or so (out of 74) and realized the episode I downloaded was corrupted! I was so enthralled in the story that the idea of skipping an episode felt blasphemous. I spent countless hours at the time trying to find another copy to no avail. As time passed the story began to fade and priorities took over. I always intended to return to it but even that memory eventually escaped me.

Looking into it now, apparently Monster is available on Netflix! It's been so long now that I can't promise it holds up, and like I said it's more drama than action, but anyone interested should check it out. I just found this review for it that seems to do my memory justice and has helped propel Monster to the top of my watch list.

I want to love anime but never seem to be able to find the time to develop a true appreciation of the medium. I can count on my fingers how many I've watched (or completed in the case of series), and they were all back before starting a family. You could probably argue I'm not even a fan of anime at all besides the few titles I've enjoyed, similar to how I'm generally indifferent to musicals but absolutely loved Schmigadoon! and Dr. Horrible's Sing Along.

So here's the list of anime that I loved.

    Akira (movie, 1988)

Ghost in the Shell (movie, 1995)

    Fullmetal Alchemist (series, 2003)

    Monster (series, 2004)

Yes thanks, I meant it to read more clear, just assumed much of the user base here would understand my inference without having to state it explicitly. I probably shouldn't have linked to his store page directly. Edit: fixed.

That is precisely why I enjoy browsing those Steam store sections, usually daily, as it provides a relatively uncurrated and unfiltered window into what kind of content is being added to Steam on a regular basis. I find a lot of gems in there. It also lets me pre-screen my store suggestions by clicking Ignore on the less interesting adult, free-to-play, and low quality games I know I have no interest in. I currently have 700 titles ignored in the store which prevents them from returning in searches or discovery queues in the future.

As a 20 year Steam user with 1400 titles on my account all my gaming happens there, but I definitely lean indie when choosing games. As such this might not be that helpful to you but I'll explain it anyway in case someone finds some value in it.

I find new games mostly thru 3 different means:

    • I regularly check the New and Trending or New Releases lists on Steam store page. It lists all new games released on Steam and is a good way to see titles that would normally completely miss my radar, like the new Alex Jones game that just released and actually looks so ridiculous it could be good but I won't be supporting it out of principle.

    • I watch gaming YouTube channels like Skillup Splattercat and Northernlion. They regularly play and discuss indie games and have informed my purchasing decisions more than I might like to admit.

    • I subscribe to humble bundle choice, a low-cost monthly subscription of random games, often smaller or "indie". You get Steam keys so the games are yours to keep. My taste in games is broad and eclectic so I rarely feel like I didn't get incredible value from the collection.

I'm hesitant to recommend this because it's not a shooter, but after seeing your edit I'll try it anyway.

Teardown is a first person heist game, where you have unlimited time setting up for the heist, but once you trigger the alarm you have 60 seconds to grab what you need and get out before the authorities arrive. You have a slew of tools at your disposal to prepare for extraction.

I really enjoy the process of breaking into the property, exploring to locate item locations and egress routes, prepping the area (blowing out walls, building ramps, strategically positioning vehicles...) then marking out my escape route with yellow spray paint. Finally the moment of truth, where you find out if your plan will work, it's exhilarating!

Recent patches have improved performance, and there are tons of mods and custom maps.

Pre-post edit: I found an older video by the dev which explains it better than I did. This trailer video shows some of the more ridiculous stuff you can do as well, though I'm more interested in the planning/execution cycle than the sandbox stuff.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread as I also would love more recommendations

If your potty trained cat starts peeing outside of it's litter box, get it to the vet immediately. Some cats can develop a sensitivity to regular cat food, causing the growth of crystals in their bladder making it painful to pee. They'll associate the litter box with the pain and look elsewhere to go instead. It often first presents as excessive licking of the private parts.

It happened to our cat, we took him into the vet after he peed on our couch a couple times. Now he's on more expensive dietary vet food and the crystals no longer form.

I subscribe for the same reasons, plus the fact that I didn't like my kid watching ads every ten minutes. It's also why I prefer to allow gaming on Steam over playing ad-laden mobile games. It does sometimes mean I have to buy two copies of the same game but it definitely beats spending a single cent on IAPs.

It's probably worth mentioning I cancelled Netflix with the end of password sharing after 10+years. I now use a grey market content provider for movies and shows until the market finds a way thru this. It is a morally ambiguous solution that has proven challenging to justify to my kid, but it makes sense for us, I simply can't afford to pay for all the different services.

When I got my first computer I was broke and couldn't afford any games. I spent countless hours on newsgroups and 0-day warez sites downloading and playing PC games. I credit this as single-handedly sparking my love affair with PC gaming. As soon as I started working and having some disposable income I began building my Steam library, and I haven't stopped since. My game library is now 1200+ titles strong and my kid's is 50+.

Once the streaming market returns to a sane value proposition I'll start paying again. Valves strategy is why I haven't pirated a game in over 20 years. Gabe Newell was exactly right all those years ago:

"We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem..."
