The I here was referring to myself, who has these abilities, not I as in you.
I assume that others don't because they can't, and instead prefer paying for a centralized service. I believe that those willing to pay for search engines are a niche group of individuals, and not something that will extend to the masses. Further they are constrained by their politics.

Why would I pay for this service when I can just host my own searx instance, or use one of the hundreds available online? What is there moat in the tech industry? It seems they mainly target people who prefer to pay for a centralized service hoping that will keep it alive, for the non-tech crowd that may make some sense, but it is such a small sliver of the market.
Marginalia does a much better job at smallweb, and as far as I am aware Kagi is not profitable. And then there is the whole Yandex / Russia ties to Kagi that make it highly questionable as a platform. I won't be touching it with a ten foot pole personally.

But if I was to face this problem in real life, both A and C would be possible choices due to vacuous truths essentially being nonsense.
This question boils down to, which of these statements is more of a lie than the others. So I don’t find it very interesting at all.

I think it requires some mental gymnastics not to see the events transpiring before us as anything but a ticking time bomb.

We had the first film, "Into the Spider-Verse (2018)" it ended with a small cliffhanger. We had a second film, "Across the Spider-Verse (2023)", it also ended with a small cliffhanger. Both films felt like they told a story, and weren't half-baked in the slightest.
If we don't get a third film it's fine by me. I don't see how it compares to Wicked, Dune, or It in any way shape or form.

I have had one for three years now, and my propane bill is now $0 down from $800/mo in the winter. My electricity bill is only $175/mo during that same billing period, and that includes the electricity I am using for everything else, which is pretty incredible considering I work and live in this house 24/7.

It's very fun, not difficult even on Hero mode, and won't make a difference if you put it down for 20 minutes or 6 months and then return where you left off. The switch is a great console for you, a majority of titles would fit your use case and often the learning curve and difficulty levels remain low.

I’ve been using BitTorrent sync since it first came out, and I already have Resilio (BS successor) on all of my machines. It’s never failed me and it’s been over a decade I think.

Free Apps
- Raycast - It's like spotlight, but doesn't suck, and is easily extensible.
- Rectangle - Simple window manager
- Around - Incredible conferencing app, my friends and family love to use it
- Resilio Sync - Syncs files across your devices, great for anything, I mostly use it for personal documents I need in multiple places.
- Tailscale - Secure remote access to any of my other devices, allows me to easily remote control another computer from the other side of the planet, or SSH into one of my servers without thinking hard.
- iTerm2 - My go to terminal app for over a decade
- Desktop Dimmer - Make the screen even dimmer than macOS allows by default
- Shottr - (Will nag you to pay) Favorite screenshot and annotation tool
- VSCodium - Better privacy focused alternative to using VSCode
- Browsers: LibreWolf / Zen / Chromium - Pairs well with Safari for web development (Try to use Chromium as little as possible please)
- KeyCastr - Show what keys you're pressing when demoing / presenting to your peers, great for technical demos
- Notion Calendar (previously Cron) - the best calendar I've ever used
- Keka - for file archiving
- Linear - (Free for personal use, pay if you're an org) Project management
- OrbStack - (Free for personal use) favorite alternative to Docker Desktop on macOS
Paid Apps
- Pixel Snap - Useful for measuring what is on screen
- Pixelmator Pro - My go-to photo editor
- Datagrip - Data store IDE (e.g. for running queries against a SQL or KV Database)
- Figma - Design work
So much more too. I wouldn't be able to do my job without the Oryx Configurator for example. Pretty much everything Sindresorhus has ever made. If you're interested in my setup I can find more time to share details.

I like it because it has a high refresh rate, its large, has great controls and ports. Only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have a good way to protect the screen. So you need to be careful about how you pack it. Best to get a padded envelope style bag, as most of these screens have this problem, despite them being designed for portability.
If someone has recommendations for bags to put these screens in, I would appreciate it!

I wouldn’t be surprised if Windows changes the EoL schedule or support, they’ve done it several times with past products.

Valve has done an incredible job with the Steam Deck. I haven’t found a single game that doesn’t run well in my collection. It makes me think Windows doesn’t have much, if anything, left to convince me to stay. Once Valve starts properly supporting Steam OS on PC, as they do on the Deck, I expect an exodus from the gaming community at the very least.
Thanks I haven't seen this thread before, very insightful!
