Interest in a weekly discussion thread?

This idea came to me last night when I was reading the post over on ~movies asking a similar question. I'm an avid user of ~music and I like to participate in the weekly "what have you been listening to" threads along with the Listening Club when possible, and I was wondering if something similar could be applied to another media group, and since I love anime and manga, my first thought was this one.

Basically my questions here are:

Would a weekly "what have you been reading/watching" thread be something you would participate in?

Secondly:

Would you prefer it be something more casual-based, or would you prefer it to be people writing reviews for things they've been viewing?

I think that one of the ways to spur more interest in media groups is weekly/monthly/whatever interval discussion threads and I'd also just personally like to see what other people here are thinking of the things they're currently watching or reading.

I think regular discussions threads are the next step to getting people participating more in specific groups. Creating a topic can be more daunting than posting a comment, and if there's nowhere general to post such comments (which are generally lower effort) then there won't be as much discussion.

The question is if lower effort comments are okay considering ~ appears to want higher quality content and discussions. To me they are, and I'd participate in regular ~anime discussion threads (so long as they were low effort, and not review based)

I agree in thinking that regular discussions would get participation higher, and I think that even some low effort stuff can have decent quality, ie some people just writing a blurb about an album they listen to on some of the ~music threads can turn into a really cool discussion about the band, getting recommendations, etc.

I'd be interested. I'm not sure I'd have any pointed commentary outside of "I watched this and I liked it" but I'd participate in a heart beat

I feel like the two aren't mutually exclusive, honestly. I'm sure that with music, books, anime, etc. things will tend to be more on the verbose side but I feel like we shouldn't make people feel like they aren't allowed to post in a thread if they haven't fully prepared their dissertation yet lol. I think there's room for short form and long form discussion in any thread. It's nice to keep things succinct sometimes

I'm not sure and maybe this would be something to play by ear, but it seems like with (often long) narrative media like anime and manga it might be a little more reasonable to expect a bit more substantial submissions than the "What have you been listening to this week?" threads require, but you probably don't want to be forcing people to write more than they actually have to say, either.

You could also leave it fairly open and as long as you're setting a strong enough example yourself, some others will probably follow suit.

I would most likely participate in a more casual or open ended discussion threads. I normally always have something to talk about with the shows I watch, and would love to give my thoughts on the shows I'm watching every week. But I don't always feel like doing reviews, or even discussing in depth some shows that might just not grab me.
