I've found ChatGPT to be really great at setting up this sortof small stuff to just get an idea started, and then after I can get more and more specific once I start understanding what it wrote.
Hope your kid is gonna a veritable left/right expert now! :D

I'm sure an actual programmer would find the code a mess or something but I'm amazed at how much I've learned about programming just poking around and examining what the code is doing.

(source: am dyslexic and have struggled with left/right my entire life and never got any actual help with this other than "try harder," but there's a lot of alternative strategies that you can do like wearing differently-colored bracelets or as an adult getting tattoos etc!)
tbh I have no idea when it's normal for left and right to be automatic already but I noticed OP expressing frustration which made me think that their kid is delayed in figuring it out

Issues with left and right prior to around age six or seven isn't even generally considered left/right confusion as a disorder yet, since before then it's normal for kids to still be acquiring that distinction.
Agreed, one of my favorite impacts of LLMs is reducing the barrier to getting started creating things with code. Small nit though: I was not expecting the game to make sound, and tapping it woke...

Small nit though: I was not expecting the game to make sound, and tapping it woke up my partner. It's a good idea to note when UI uses sound with a "turn your sound on" hint or similar.
Hey, OP. I see you're linking your own blog, and this is your first post here. I suggest you review the self promotion policy here: https://docs.tildes.net/policies/code-of-conduct#self-promotion

I think, in this case, there’s nothing to worry about here, though, as there’s nothing being meaningfully promoted here aside from a cute story and game. This seems to me like a perfectly good conversation starter, and indeed has already sparked some meaningful replies!

I'm having a lot of fun with this

Thanks, sorry about that!

Sure thing. For what it's worth, I contribute here pretty regularly with a pseudonym that I don't want linked to my real name
I'm thrilled to hear, genuinely.
