I read somewhere that the best way to get someone to change their mind is to make them feel part of the "same tribe." But I don't want to do that every time. It takes a lot of time, commitment, consistency, etc. and ultimately I feel manipulative. I'd rather listen, learn, and form my own opinions that I use to guide myself, because I'm the only person I can truly affect.

Same, I'm really excited about this too. I have one friend in particular who I'm constantly sharing music with, and it's a pain to send him Spotify links; when I send it via Gchat (or whatever), the song starts playing when he clicks it which interrupts his current playlist. That means he won't listen to it when I send it, but he'll "get around to it."

A simple fix would be "OK then don't play the song when the link is tapped/clicked," and honestly I wish that was the default behavior, but I think a proper DM in the app is better. I've lost track of the music we've recommended to each other because it's spread between multiple messaging apps. Keeping this data in Spotify can also help tune the algorithms to our tastes more. That's pretty cool

I read the book then immediately watched the show. I think the show did a better job of fleshing out the characters around Murderbot. In the book, each character was just mouthpieces with different names (Mensah excepted). In the show, they have easily-distinguishable personalities and relationships.

I missed the nuances of Murderbot's inner dialogue in the show, but that's just a limitation of the medium. I liked both of them a lot, and look forward to reading the rest!

I don't know much about tires, so I used an LLM to research tires for me.

It started when I got my winter tires swapped out for my All Season tires at the tire shop early this Spring. The tire shop told me that the All Season tires were looking a little worn. They gave me a quote for some new tires and I told them I would look into it.

At home I took a picture of my tires and gave some basic information about them to ChatGPT. It verified the tire shop's recommendation that I should replace them sooner rather than later because they were six years old. I uploaded a screenshot of the tire quote from the shop and it told me that it was an "okay" recommendation.

I then had it search the internet and look for tires that would fit my car and tell me the pros and cons of each of them. It gave me a table with links to a bunch of different tire vendors with different tires at different price points. I started narrowing in on a specific tire and had it search the web, car forums, reddit, etc for reviews about that tire.

Once I decided I wanted that particular tire, I asked it how I can get a deal on it. I was debating waiting for Black Friday, but it let me know that Costco generally has that brand on sale every June. So I waited until June, set up some deal alerts, and nabbed them at a discount!

Saved a couple hundred bucks from the original quote, got some quiet tires, and Costco will take care of them for years to come. Pretty happy about all that.

Yeah, I do a lot of band exercises with my legs to warm up. Ice after workouts. Took some Kirkland joint supplement but it didn't help. New thing in trying is just maintaining my numbers for leg day at the gym instead of trying to increase it. That seems to be helping the most so far. And no running!

That's wild. I thought I was a madman for getting a few front page reddit posts. If this is just your gloss-over recall, I look forward to the more in-depth article.

Going with your actual name for a username? Bold move. Can't imagine that's a good idea. Did you ever hook up that eBike wheel? Is the power button giving you grief?

This makes me really wish HTTP 402 were adopted at all. Anywhere. I'd love to load up $5 into my browser and visit a news site for 2c, or post to a forum for .05 cents.

Interesting! This is partially why I prioritize using Simple English Wikipedia, however the prompt instructions for the LLMs isn't to "summarize" but to explain in simpler terms. Hope that helps

Valid points. The scope of this project (a button on Wikipedia) is low stakes enough that I'm not concerned with the cleanliness of constants. If I wrote it myself, I would be more consistent. That's why a project with higher stakes would only use LLMs to assist. Like you said, we're not at a point yet where LLMs can do everything perfectly.
