What creative projects have you been working on?
This topic is part of a series. It is meant to be a place for users to discuss creative projects they have been working on.
Projects can be personal, professional, physical, digital, or even just ideas.
If you have any creative projects that you have been working on or want to eventually work on, this is a place for discussing those.
I've started posting an album on my Instagram with a write-up about the album every day. I have few followers, so it's really just a personal project that's giving me space to talk about music I like. I'm going to try to post one album per day for 365 days, at least when I'm not in the woods. So far, it's been just shy of two weeks and going well!
Turns out that 365 albums is a lot of music.
That sounds really cool! Would you be willing to share it on here? I love to hear folks talk about the music they love.
Definitely! Do you mean the posts themselves or my IG handle?
Either would work for me!
For sure! My IG is the same as my tildes username.
Hey, this is very similar to the endeavor I took up during the quarantine - I called it "An Album A Day". I was able to do that for 50 odd days during my university vacation before classes started again. I have added my favorite songs of the album this playlist, and I keep expanding them, but with relatively slower rate. It was fun while it lasted!
The project I'm working on right now happens to be both technical and creative!
I've just put together a MiSTer, and it just so happens that attempting to plug it into my TV absolutely kills both eARC and HDMI-CEC because of course proprietary systems like this like to fail spectacularly for no reason whatsoever. So instead of playing with it on the nice big screen, I've just purchased one of those iPad screens with an HDMI control board so I can use it instead. It has the benefit of being reasonably high quality, 4:3 aspect ratio, and small enough to make turning it on it's side for tate mode a breeze.
A whole bunch of bare boards are really unattractive, and herein lies the project. One of the benefits of choosing a relatively small screen is that it fits easily within the build volume of my 3D printer, so I intend to build a case to hold everything together including the MiSTer itself. Unfortunately I'm not actually great with CAD and making attractive cases, but fortunately someone else has released an unfinished version of such a project with aesthetics I really liked.
To be honest I will probably end up redoing everything once I get my CAD skills up to par because for a future project I will want to print a custom arcade-style controller and will want to have a cabinet to match.
Totally missed this thread! The remix is here
I've been working on a remix of Madeon's Love You Back.
As it turns out, throwing edm and pop into a blender is pretty interesting. I know it's been done to death but the results are interesting nonetheless.
Some of the elements that I borrowed from my edm experience include sidechaining for that groove; filter sweeps (I get quite a bit of mileage out of them in this track); white noise/pitch risers; LFO on the volume envelope for the drop synth; frequency-band-specific sidechaining to clean up the mix.
As for the pop side of things, I used the following: a 'muted' kick; preserved the original tempo of 106BPM; eschewed any prominent buildups (the buildup to the drop is almost nonexistent)!; simplified the chord structure (I think I use just 2 chords in the entirety of the verse and chorus); added some vocal shouts/adlibs (?)
Anyway, pretty fun week! Happy Friday y'all
For anyone with a decent ear who's feeling generous: Any idea what scale(s) are being used in the piano solo that kicks off at 3:32?
