What creative projects have you been working on?
This topic is part of a series. It is meant to be a place for users to discuss creative projects they have been working on.
Projects can be personal, professional, physical, digital, or even just ideas.
If you have any creative projects that you have been working on or want to eventually work on, this is a place for discussing those.
Had a hard week this week, between my kids being hard and being depressed. I had a day to myself one day this week and realized what I really wanted to do was paint something.
It's been... Months? Since I painted something and it was exciting to sit down and do it again. I got the project pretty much done, which left me wanting more. I'm going on a short road trip and vacation for the next week and so I decided to pack up my painting kit and bring some stuff with me if I have the time.
I paint miniatures, for reference
That looks great!
Thank you.
I've been in a bit of a creative rut since I finished working on some chainmail a few months ago. Kinda hoping to pick up a project, but almost all of mine, creative or otherwise, are on hold temporarily for budget reasons.
Kinda hoping I can see someone else here and get inspired.
Started working on the technical side of a charity project this week. Going to be a way for users to record themselves reading children's books, then we're going to put a QR code linking to the reading inside donated copies of the books to donate to local children's hospitals.
A very vibrant lemon. I'm learning how to use soft pastels from youtube tutorials (shoutout to Alain Picard for the lemon lesson). I've always been drawn to the loose, broken lined, and heavily textured style (which I've learned is called "painterly") that is possible with the medium. I'm struggling a bit because most of my drawing experience prior to this involved trying to replicate what I'm referencing exactly, so I feel like my attempts at intentional imprecision (for lack of a better word) don't look very authentic yet. Hoping it improves with practice but I'm having fun making a mess in the meantime
I was working on a “why did you introduce time-travel to this world if you were never going o do anything with it” fan-fiction while waiting for family to arrive; now that they’re here, i’ve hit a bit of a wall. while i’m not technically between bigger projects, i think a shuffle is in the cards and i’ll probably put down the big project i was working on to revive one of the shelved ones. we’ll see!
That sounds interesting. Time travel stories are my absolute hands-down favorite when they actually explore the topic (instead of just using it as a cheap deus ex machina or whatever).
What are some of your favourites?
I love effective, well-considered consequence-heavy time travel narratives! The source I’m working with is anything but. 😅
In this particular context, time travel is used once, and merely as a justification for knowing the Big Bad’s vague plans (which could have been
an emaildiscovered in almost any other way), but then oops! Time travel can’t be used again for arbitrary unobtanium reasons which directly contradict and are contradicted by the rest of the text.Meanwhile, the Choices made by the PC (who has both the mechanism of time-travel and the unobtainium necessary to operate it) may result in extremely terrible consequences: such as the death of his entire family and everyone he’s ever known. Gee, if only there was some way to render meaningless that poor choice…
(I’ve been actively angry about this for five years.)
I made a terrarium!
It took me a couple of hours, I build it with vague reference to Hello Tiny World by Ben Newell using a kit I got for Christmas
I didn't read up on proper design of a terrarium or balancing the ecosystem, so it's a gamble as to whether it survives, thrives, or dies, but I figured it was better to make it without reading up on it than the kit continuing to sit on the shelf indefinitely!
School got out for me so I have some unexpected free time. I got back into recording and I’m hoping to update my neocities page but I have a lot to learn about html. Other than that I’m trying to start a manga of my own. Recently moved away from contemporary painting and more illustrative stuff so I’m hoping to tell a story. Just need to think of one.
