I usually use 20-30gigs a month. More during marching band season when I use my phone as a hotspot during contests I work. Youtube in the background during work and some mindless browsing during lunch adds up. I'm also super guilty of forgetting to enable wifi when I get home (thankfully I'm on an unlimited plan)

Oh lord I hate the motion sickness that most first person games give me. I made it about 15 minutes into Bioshock before I had to through in the towel (or else I was going to throw something else). The only way I can play them is handheld on the switch. Similar to feanne though, Subnautica didn't give me any problems. I wonder what makes that one different

I did an online masters while working full time and found the work life balance pretty challenging even though I had extremely supportive teachers and a fantastic cohort. I'd get home from work then be stuck working at the computer for 4 or 5 hours most nights. I had to be protective of my time and some friends and family were a bit grumpy about me not being able to visit as often, but it was just for a couple of years so I toughed it out. Overall I enjoyed my classes and would do it again, but I won't deny that the burnout was real during the last semester. I'm not a great student so you may have an easier time with it. My only advice would be honest to yourself about your mental state and don't be afraid to take a break if you need it

I love your enthusiasm for this and I've always liked the look of smaller keyboards (and the idea of freeing up a few inches of desk space) but they aren't for me for one major reason: I am terrible at remembering shortcuts. Like, seriously awful. Having to toggle and mess with layers would be miserable and I'd have to keep a cheat sheet for everything. A few physical buttons I use less frequently taking up keyboard space is less of an annoyance (for me) than having to look up shortcuts when I do need those things

Just to add some anecdotal experience to your last paragraph, I used Goodnotes on a refurbished ipad pro to get through my last year of gradschool and it was a fantastic notetaking experience. Being able to color code, tag, and directly paste charts into my notes was incredibly helpful for me. Paired it with zotero so I could access and mark up my source docs and had an honest "welcome to the future" moment lol. I did end up getting a paper texture screen protector to make writing feel nicer

A house would be my reasonable purchase (I'm so tired of apartment living) but after that I would love to get a new, super nice alto saxophone and soprano saxophone. My alto is pushing 50 years old and while it still plays great, my hands would appreciate the ergonomics of a modern horn. I don't have much use for a soprano but they are fun and hey, why not? I'm satisfied with the tenor and bari I already have but I'd also splash some cash to give them both a nice overhaul

I'm in the appalachian region of the US and my family does our main gathering and meal on Christmas Eve. We typically have baked ham plus a TON of casseroles and sides. Hashbrown and broccoli casserole are staples. There are also lots of "salads" that are really desserts, such as pretzel salad. Pecan pie and red velvet cake are pretty much always present, and I usually make a swiss roll yule log. We do some slightly random dishes that I'm not sure of the origin, such as little appetizers my dad always makes that are waterchestnuts wrapped in bacon with a splash of soy sauce and a bit of brown sugar. We also adopted the tradition of making kolachy cookies from my great aunt. Christmas morning is always country ham and biscuits

Because of the similarity to Thanksgiving, the last few years my family has opted to do different meal themes for Christmas instead. We've done appetizers-and-desserts-only (a huge hit since we tend to over graze anyway), italian-american, and soup & sandwiches. This year we're doing a taco bar/texmex approach. I'm particularly excited about the tres leches cake.

I got sucked back into Monster Hunter World/Iceborne a couple of months ago because I was determined to finally beat the endgame big bad (which I finally did!). I was slowly working on building out final armor sets for every weapon I use but there's been a crazy uptick in the playerbase since the announcement of Monster Hunter Wilds so I changed focus to learning new weapons and jumping into SOS hunts to help out new and returning players. The game has always had plenty of people online but it is SO nice to see hubs full of players again

I love the idea and I usually wake up before my alarm, but there are days where that would absolutely not happen despite the fact that I am super consistent with bedtimes. Not sure of it's related to hormones or what but there are always a few days each month where I could sleep until noon if not interrupted

I love the recorder! Once you get the hang of it you can pretty easily pick up playing the penny whistle or even a practice chanter for bagpipes if you're feeling feisty. I do have a musical background (saxophone mostly) but I recently decided to learn the clarinet so that I can do more doubling. It's a bit fiddly and I'm realizing just how much I benefit from the more ergonomic design of the saxophone, but it is very rewarding (also way more portable than my usual bari sax!). Reading music is pretty simple if you can wrap your head around the fact that the rhythm part is just fractions. Good luck on your musical journey and have fun!

No kids and I live close to my workplace, so I have it pretty easy. I pack my lunch and lay out clothes for the next day the night before. In the morning, my first alarm goes off at 7:15am and I usually lay in bed groggy or mess around on my phone until my 'time to get up' alarm at 7:45am. First thing I do is make myself drink a big glass of water. Then I shower, dress, tame my hair, grab my bag and go by 8:45am (although I try to leave earlier in the winter to defrost the car). When I get to work I check email/open mail first thing, then make a pot of coffee for the office and enjoy a cup at my desk. With seasonal changes this time of year I find myself struggling to get out of bed before 8am, but Daylight savings in a couple weeks should help.

Weekends I sleep in until 9ish unless I have plans. Once I'm up, I like to make an espresso and curl up in my chair so I can just stare out the window while I wake up. When I visit my folks I like to sit outside on their porch instead. Coffee on the porch is one of the best little pleasures in life

That's what I do for the majority of the year with lots of little adventures spread out throughout the seasons. However, I also try to do one "big" trip each year and unfortunately that often requires a flight because we've exhausted the big-trip-worthy locations nearby. I guess it's a selfish need for variety and an excuse to get out of the local bubble from time to time

It's not really the main focus of the article but I'm a bit surpised that the author puts so much emphasis on the cost of flying. Perhaps it's a shallow view on my end (or I'm better at finding cheap flights than I thought), but the time saved often evens out the monetary cost. Slow travel is great, but taking a week off of work to travel is a privilege in itself for many people. Opting to fly and only taking a day or two off for a long weekend but still getting to enjoy the majority of the time on-location due to time saved by flying is more appealing. I don't make much but scrounging up the funds for one or two flights a year is usually pretty doable.

The author did give me a lot to think about when discussing the fact that people feel entitled to travel. While it's not strictly necessary, it's something I struggle to condemn. It's so incredibly important to have opportunities to broaden horizens and world views. But I also won't deny that air travel is terrible for the environment. Reducing whenever possible seems to be the closest thing to a middle ground. I already have a loose rule that I won't fly somewhere I could drive to in ~6hrs, but maybe I can try to push myself to increase that bubble.

Trust, agency, and variety. I've been at my current job a little over a year and I'm still pretty smitten. It's a non profit state music educators association and as a long time band geek, I love that I get to do work that supports music educators and their students. My position is a bit of a catch all and the variety of tasks helps keep me engaged and excited about work. My boss encourages us to ask questions, offer suggestions, and research/problem solve on our own, which is a huge relief after my previous employer expected things to be done an incredibly specific way but offered no guidance and would get frustrated any time you asked for clarification (and would then turn around and be upset you didn't do it the way they wanted).
