I don't have time to watch the whole video, but as a local, sure seems he's missing the point if he's complaining about large advertisements blanketing the skyline. I don't like it either, but you could burn the sphere to the ground tomorrow and there's still going to be a ton of them, as that ship has mostly sailed.

Suppose it could wind up like the hilton laser show and almost blind a pilot and be shutdown on those grounds, but other than that it's here to stay so long as it makes money.

Now that said, if it's making money is up for debate, but in the short term it's main goal is like every other opulence attraction these days, which is to get influences to show up and spend money and get selfies, and then to get the people who don't like it to show up and complain about it, so mission accomplished there.

I don't know how much of the video you have watched, and I can't say if you would like it or not, but it does contain more than complaints about ads in Vegas.

As a current local I prefer the sphere to the giant ugly as hell banners and signs up and down the sides of the hotels these days, and it's hard to say "hey stop trying to make money in a gaudy way" when it's sorta the lifeblood of the economy and part of the reason we don't have a state tax.

Living in Las Vegas is probably the reason why I think that even "real world" advertising should probably be illegal. And as someone who doesn't live there anymore to see how it would topple the local economy, that's a risk I'm willing to take. 😜

Eddy Burback's travel videos are awesome. He has this ability to go from silly to sociological in just a few seconds. These long-form videos contain a series of valuable insights and observations on American cultural artifacts. I sincerely believe Eddy Burback's travel content deserves attention beyond that usually given to react content.

Eddy and Ted's journeys to the Rainforest Cafe's and Margaritavilles always make me laugh. I'm guessing the next one is gonna be all the Hard Rock Cafe's.

All other arguments aside, I'd fully agree the poor souls who had to pay $500 a seat in "THE SPHERE" only to find out that what they got was ONE THIRD of the sphere because they are stuck way back below a balcony. Id be royally pissed to find that out after spending what's still a ridiculous amount for a seat.

I finally managed to put my finger on what it is that's making me dislike the Sphere, contents of the video aside. It's the unnecessary extravagance of it. It actually makes sense that the tickets are so expensive simply because of how much money the electricity must be costing them. I found one article that estimated that it could draw a peak of 28MW. That's as much as a city!

I actually consider myself to be something of a fan of super elaborately designed venues, but the Sphere takes that extravagance to the next level while abandoning the things I enjoy about those venues. It's just too big for it's own good. There's a balcony, which means that there are a lot of seats that have an obstructed view for a lot of the giant screen. If you go to see U2 or any other live event there, most seats will give you tiny ants to look at while you're distracted by visualizations that are several orders of magnitude bigger and more colorful. Then there's the exterior display which is loud and obnoxious but doesn't actually improve your experience of the act. A while back I was in the Ahmanson theater in the nosebleed seats and the height and vertical pitch of the seats terrified me; I can only imagine how bad it would be scaled up to the Sphere's proportions!

Beyond that, I don't think there's really an experience that really matches the capabilities of the Sphere in a meaningful way. The short film they are showing is probably the closest thing to it, but to my understanding it was shot specifically for it. It's as if it were built for experiences that don't really exist.

If you like everything you see with the Sphere, good on you. But personally speaking if I learned that a show I wanted to see was being shown there I would probably not see it, even if the price was right. Something about it gives me a slight sense of fear that comes from some primal part of me.

The Sphere could be a pretty sick planetarium. On that note, it could house a movie-length version of something like Cosmos if it was designed specifically for the sphere. And that is the problem, right? It must be designed for the venue, and it wouldn't be trivial to make the same movie work perfectly both on the Sphere and on regular screens. It's unlikely that many filmmakers will have the funding to make an expensive, complicated, highly specialized movie to play in a single venue.

Live music doesn't strike me as a great fit unless it is more of a multimedia presentation with a live music component, as opposed to a concert with added visuals.

I actually thought the same about the Planetarium idea, but it has the same obstruction and scale issues. Beyond that I don't see a packed sphere for a presentation about astrophysics.
