Priorities here are a bit out of shape, in my opinion. Maybe the dairy industry should hire people who have documents. But then they would have to pay them a realistic wage.

I live in WI and the political climate here has been a struggle between the Democrats (cities that drive revenue) and the Republicans (suburban and rural areas). Our GOP has been at loggerheads with the Governor (D). Most of the state swings blue by population, but has been so gerrymandered the GOP has gotten more than just a toe in the door. We are backwards on legalizing marijuana, the ruling by by the SCOTUS on Roe v Wade has sent our laws back to the 1800s, along with shared revenue that has hamstrung Madison and Milwaukee from operating properly. Both cities have serious fiscal hurdles that are always being raised by the GOP. We have ChuckleFuck Ron Johnson as a US senator, and the WI legislature has Robin Voss, who is only concerned with his "base". He blocks anything Gov Evers does, up to and including not swearing in appointees from 2 years ago.

All that being said, nothing will move the dial on this. Immigrants are vital to WI and should be treated with dignity and protected under the law. Instead the GOP will trot out the old, tired rhetoric about how "brown people bad" and "they contribute nothing, send them back". They are just a bunch of racist, misogynist, biggoted old men who love power and money. Fuck all the rest of us.

Whenever chicken plants are raided they always arrest the workers but I never see any articles where the people in charge of hiring are arrested. At most the plants shut down for a shift before picking up business as usual.

Even Florida's harshest anti-immigrant laws leave easy loopholes in place for businesses:

But a closer look at the legislation clarifies that these penalties apply only after an employer fails to use the database three or more times within two years. In those instances, the DEO can also suspend applicable business licenses until the employer provides proof of compliance.

That's even if that part of the law is enforced.

As well, the agency "does not have a robust enforcement section," according to the Florida Policy Institute, and creating new positions to oversee the provisions would result in significant costs.
