I LOVE Jared's videos, so happy to see them shared here. There are so many fruits I had no idea existed, even from places I lived in for years. I'm picky with certain foods I'm unfamiliar with and his videos have encouraged me to give new fruits and vegetables a try.

In more recent videos he's woven in some interesting information and shared the history of the places he's visited to find these fruits. The Iceland videos in particular are great. The fake milk face off was also a riot, I hope he films a second season!

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Weird Explorer too. And I also had no idea there were sooooo many varieties/cultivars of fruit until I stumbled upon his channel a few years ago. One day I hope to get to try some of the more interesting ones I have seen on his channel, but for now I have to make do with whatever exotic fruit I can actually find here in Canada, and also living vicariously through his videos. :P

It may be a bit of a flaky answer, but honestly, I don't think I have a favorite since I genuinely enjoy them all. I do really enjoy the ones where he's just wandering around markets, or interacting with locals though. And I do kinda miss his top 10 style videos, so I hope he makes some more updated ones of those eventually.

And as for the fruit I am most interested in trying, even before discovering the channel I had already had a bunch of pretty "exotic" fruits (by Canadian standards anyways) in my travels, like Papaya, Guava, Passion Fruit, Dragonfruit, Rambutan, Kiwi, Lychee, Tamarind, Persimmon, Kumquat, and Starfruit. But since discovering his channel I've also now ticked a few others off my wishlist too, like jackfruit, breadfruit, and durian... Although they were canned/frozen/dried versions, so trying them fresh is still a goal for me. But TBH, most of the truly weird fruits he's had that most people have never even heard of are not what I am most interested in. Don't get me wrong, I'd still love to try them all, but it's actually all the varieties of mangoes he's eaten that I am the most jealous of, since mango is by far my favorite fruit. So I would love love love to be able to try all those eventually. And I've also only ever had Cavendish bananas (and plantains), so being able to try some of the different varieties he's had would be awesome too. Ditto for all the avocados. But I also really want to try some of the interesting beans he's eaten as well, like the stink or "ice cream" beans.

What about you, what fruit do you most want to try?

Does your city have any asian/chinese markets? I find they're the best place to look for fresh exotic fruits in western cities. I've gotten fresh durian and jackfruit from the ones near my place. There's some really strange stuff that pops up sometimes.

Mango is also one of my favourite fruits! If you haven't already, try some with a bit of salt and dried chilli flakes. To die for! I definitely want to try ice cream bean, but also cloudberries, dalit (the non-horrible version of durian), and a bunch of others. There's so many, I try not to think too much about it or it becomes overwhelming haha

I have been to a bunch of asian markets over the years here in the greater Toronto area, but unfortunately none have had any crazy exotic fresh fruits that I haven't tried yet. And yup, I have had mango with various condiments too, but I especially love it with tajin since that hits all the notes.

And ditto about trying not to think about it too much either... but that's mostly because I know a ton of them I will likely never get to try, which makes me sad. :(

Yeah it's a bummer the vast majority of these fruits are in far away lands. But I like to think my life has already been as enriched with fruits I wouldn't have known about or tried if I hadn't found this channel. There's always going to be something missed even if we were able to travel the globe over. If I find and taste some more, it's really just a bonus :)

I'm fortunate to live in easy range of multiple "weird produce" markets, so I've tried everything on your list but durian (yet), and I've got to say, there is absolutely nothing like fresh ripe jackfruit. They're right at the top with fresh lychees and persimmons for me-- incredibly fragrant, sweet, and with a weird crispy-chewy texture I still haven't found anything to properly compare against. Good luck getting your hands on it! If you can find somewhere that sells it already cut, that's much easier than the twenty-pound monstrosities, and you're less likely to glue yourself to the furniture. (The rind and core are full of a latex sap that takes mechanic soap to get off, it's wild.)

Sounds like I'm going to have to try these videos....

Unfortunately I think the odds of me ever being able to find a fresh jackfruit anywhere near where I live are pretty slim, unless I spend $100+ importing it myself. So I've only tried canned jackfruit so far, both a ripe and a green version. The ripe canned kind was not great, TBH, so I probably won't buy it ever again, but I think that was largely because the syrup it was in made it far too sickly sweet for my tastes. However, I will most likely be buying the green kind again at some point. It was basically tasteless on its own, but the texture was awesome (pleasantly chewy/fibrous), and so I used it to make a faux pulled pork which turned out amazing. And I've now seen a few more recipes where it was also used as a meat substitute, that I would like to try eventually too. Especially since I cut red meat out of my diet a few years ago, and have been trying to gradually eat less meat in general ever since, with the goal to eventually become a full-time pescatarian / lacto-ovo vegetarian. :)

But I'm hoping next time I visit the Caribbean or Florida again I will be able to find a fresh, ripe one to try. So 🤞

Good hunting with your quest for the fresh stuff-- it's actually really easy to find around here (big southern US city), most of the multi-ethnic markets have it. Might not have to go quite as far as Florida.

    Nice video.
In the youtube comments some people mentioned that the fruit he was eating lacked flavor because it wasn't ripe enough. That's the main thing I thought about while watching it. Is it under ripe? Is it over ripe? Because ripeness drastically affects the flavor of many fruits, and if you are unfamiliar with the fruit you may be disappointed.
