Curried chicken wings and a fat tire beer
Frozen chicken wings, about $5 a pound at the local Winco. Defrosted half in the microwave for about 5 minutes. Rubbed on Olive oil, threw in the air fryer for about 30 minutes at 400 degrees (f). Sprinkled on Tumeric, Paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper.
Holy shit is this good.
Are you aware there's a group called ~food?
How do you like the air fryer? Which one is it? I've never owned a conventional fryer before due to the fact that I wouldn't know what to do with all the left over oil.
I'm just curious, thinking about saving up to get one but don't know anyone who has one.
I'm not OP, but I own an air fryer. They're very interesting, if a bit limited. Slice up a potato into fries, rinse under cold water (removes starch), pat dry and place in a bowl, add about a tablespoon of oil (I use olive, but just about anything will work), season to taste. Air fryer at 390 or 400, 25 minutes. Delicious fries.
I also use it for chicken breast tenders. You can bread them as if to fry them (dredge in flour, into egg wash, into seasoned breadcrumbs), and they come out moist and very tender. It's amazingly quick to get those up to temp, so check them often. 165F internal is perfect for chicken, so remove them at about 160 (they'll hit 165 before they cool). I serve with hot sauce of choice, or yum-yum sauce (Japanese steakhouse sauce), or teriyaki, etc. You can even put cheese on them just before they're done and make chicken parmesan (just cover with sauce and serve with pasta). Really one of my favorite recipes.
So it's limited, at least for me. You can't use batter-type coatings like tempura (they just fall off). It will cook freezer french fries well, if that's your need. Chicken wings are absolutely a perfect use.
If you fry a lot, they're worth it, but it's not something I use every time I cook. Not really good for beef at all, and I'd hesitate to put pork in there. Otherwise, it was worth what it cost.
Awesome thank you. Just the type of insight I was looking for. I will probably wait around for a sale to pick one up.
