Anyone going to Gencon?
We're at 59 days until Gencon and its one of my favorite events of the year. Wondering if anyone else is going and what you're excited for.
It seems like Lorcana is set to the be the buzz of the con this year around. While I'm interested in getting my hands on a deck or two to give it a go, I'm more looking forward to when BGG posts their games that will be releasing to sift through and try to find a hidden gem or two.
I'm making my annual trek to the Con. We do a Wednesday evening Escape Room as a non-con event I always look forward to. Auction Collectables is my annual must-do on Friday night. I also got into one of the 2 hour Super Robo Rally events that I'm excited about!
I'd try Lorcana, but with the huge buzz about it I don't know that I'll try to get any at the con. I can experience resale-value regret later. :)
edit: the BGG Games List definitely needs sifting -- and I think it is here
2nd edit: Steam Up Deluxe is another high interest.
I didn't know BGG list was up! Thanks for that!
We do a Wednesday to Sunday as well. Wednesday is normally a get in, play some games in a lobby and get dinner. Nothing too involved so we can crash out early for the running of the nerds.
I hadn't heard of Super Robo Rally before (just robo rally) and that looks really neat, I may have to look into an event. The events went FAST this year in general though.
Ahhh I wish I was go to cons again one day. You guys have fun : ) Have you been back since covid and has there been changes?
Yeah, I've gone every year they hosted it, starting two years ago.
Two years ago it was mask mandated and actually went over pretty well. Lots of vendors weren't there and it felt very different from a 'normal' gencon, but more chill and low key. I really enjoyed it, with the bigger vendors gone it let me really spend time at a bunch of smaller booths and jump more into the indie sceen.
Last year it was mask optional and lots of people didn't wear them. I avoided events where it would be lots of people in close contact with one another that I might have otherwise done, but overall felt more normal. Not all the vendors were there still though, but a lot of the big ones were.
This year I'm hoping its back to the pre-covid Gencon that I've loved for so long.
I got swine flu at PAX one year :/ totally don't recommend. But yeah be safe.
I hope the vendors come back. The smaller booths are fun and having more time with them is nice but he showier pieces do make the event more exciting, at least because they have a lot more money to throw around
I'm excited for GenCon this year. My friends and I are trying Critical Putt — escape room, RPG, and miniature golf, all in one!
I've never heard about this, sound neat!
It's new this year. Definitely worth checking out at least once, I think.
After getting the email from Gencon my wife and I were made aware of the 32 player Spirit Island game thats going on. Spirit Island is one of my favorite games of all time so we're going to try to get in on that with Generics.
