I played some on the unofficial app Discord, but there's definitely a sense of people there already knowing the "meta" and having what amounts to a script they follow when they talk to you. Also there's no microphone testing and I could barely understand half the people in the server that I played with.
Well, that's not exactly fair. It seemed like a quarter were super quiet and a quarter were compressed like they were using a laptop mic.
And I'm not into the official app because I don't like the idea of paying a monthly subscription for a game. Alas.
Yea, the established metas and such just kind of make it a drag to play with any long running groups. Nice thing with the official is the ability to change individual mic volumes. Exact kind of...

Nice thing with the official is the ability to change individual mic volumes. Exact kind of comforts I'm talking about that make it hard to use the unofficial. Also as long as one player has the higher tier (I do), nobody else actually has to pay, which is nice.
You can do this in Discord, too, but it doesn't help all that much when somebody has no idea how to set up a microphone. I definitely feel like, from the ~100 total games I've played (maybe 85-90...

I definitely feel like, from the ~100 total games I've played (maybe 85-90 as a Storyteller) that the game shines best between friends who are playing for fun first and victory second. Finding people online who know the 'most likely' scenario for any information they're given, or that certain roles should out themselves immediately and die, etc just feels like it takes away from the social aspect.
Unfortunately, having a group of 8+ friends that are all interested in a fairly rules-complicated social deduction game, have the time for a minimum 2-3 hour block to play it in, and have schedules that all line up is pretty much impossible.
Yes! omg this game has been a godsend during the pandemic where it was basically our own socialization with the outside world. I love that game as well as any other hidden identity games before it...

I haven't visited the discords, mainly played with a revolving group of local friends. I'm afraid the discords are too hardcore for me.

Do we have any clocktower players here? It's a social deduction game in the same vein as something like werewolf. I play on the official app online when i have a chance, but many groups tend to not be as welcoming to new people joining up with them and seem to be very "cliquey" in their play. The non official app seems to have a better community, but the QoL comforts of the official app just make it hard to go back to the unofficial one.
I've played a good number of games and ran many more as a storyteller. Just looking to find a more welcoming group in need of a player or 2 to join occasionally (my wife plays as well), or if interest is warranted, maybe start one up. I'd be happy to teach anybody who is interested.
I'm on the the official and non official discord, along with the NRB one, but if there are any other good discord groups to join I'd be happy to hear of them.
Never heard of it till now. I enjoy werewolf style games but it can be tough to get enough people playing at once to make it interesting. I'm using playing with 3 or 4 people and a lot of these...

I've played a few games at my LGS and I love it. The only issue we've got as a group is that the guy who runs it just isn't free consistently so play sessions are sporadic.

I'm an original Kickstarter backer and own the special Kickstarter version of the game with a purple grimoire and extra experimental tokens. I absolutely love the game and it is very well designed and extremely fun...as long as you can get the minimum of 8 players + storyteller (you can play with 7 + storyteller but it's really not fun with less than 8). Even still though, the game shines the brightest with 12 players + storyteller which is a big hurdle for a group to overcome.
I've been following the game for a very long time now and I'm super excited to see what the new scripts are going to be like when they release.

I started playing this recently with a small group. I was impressed at how much complexity some of the scripts lead to compared to similar games I'd previously played (Resistance, Avalon, One Night Werewolf, Ultimate Werewolf Inquisition, etc). Maybe some of that was due to note having any "meta" yet, but it felt a lot harder to get any concrete information leaving us guessing a lot.

To play Clocktower proper, you need a minimum of 7 players and what amounts to a GM. It's the biggest hurdle the game has.
