I've been playing Riftbound quite a bit recently, been building decks and playing events! Currently not superrrr happy because 2 of my battlefields I've picked up for my Irelia deck are now useless, and my Teemo deck is also in a bit of a rough spot, but I'm looking forwards to seeing what's gonna happen when Set 3 arrives with Pyke my beloved

These cards, particularly the battlefields and Fight or Flight were so ubiquitous that almost every deck was hit one way or another.
As a funny side note, the Jinx starter deck is now standard illegal due to Scrap Heap and Fight or Flight. Though I expect it to be allowed if someone is playing the starter deck card for card.
I know that sometimes when this happens as long as the deck isn't modified in some way it's still technically legal! (Though lets be honest it's not a strong deck anyways)

Been playing Riftbound for a month-or-so and I'm hooked. I love these changes and Riot's reasoning behind them.
From my anecdotal experience only going to Nexus Nights, it was already an issue. We're usually 6-8 people, and every night there's at least 2 Dravens and 2 Irelias. And that's in a non-competitive environment. In the last Shenzhen regional, the top8 were 2 Irelias and 6 Dravens.
With my current upgraded Fiora starter deck, I have won 0 out of ~12 games vs Draven and maybe 1 out of 8 vs Irelia. The issue (in my opinion) was mainly how consistent these decks were.
Irelia always had access to her from the champion zone, and she only really needed boots of swiftness and one of guardian angel / zhonya's to get going. Fight or Flight and Reaver's Row made traditional battle attempts impossible and most games devolved into "do you have enough direct kill spells to get rid of Irelia? If not, you lose." With the removal of her battlefields and Fight or Flight, the matches get a lot more interesting because she can't just not interact with the opponent anymore.
As for Draven, I think everyone saw that one coming. Drawing through most of your deck to then cheat out cheap, big units for free has been a ban waiting to happen. No bad feelings there.
Overall, I'm very happy with this and hope that people can return to at least trying to brew some decks. I am a timmy-johnny through and through and if I win 1 out of 5 games that I actually get to play I'm happy with that. Obviously losing the game on turn 2 was not particularly great.
haha I've also been playing for a month or so! I'm a wanna be Irelia player that just bought their Defiant Dances so we'll see how it shakes out for me or if i just wasted like 60$ for nothing...

I've never been into any TCG so I have more general questions of how this works...
What happens to the banned cards? Will they ever be allowed again? Can you exchange them for non-banned cards of similiar value? Do they go out of print so they can get more valuable for collectors? Are there game modes that allow banned cards (and not just between friends or that cousin you play with during extended-family-camping-week when it rains)?
Tell me anything in general and also specifically for this game.
I don't know why but banning in physical TCGs has always fascinated me, but I never took the time ask my questions before.

Banned cards mostly just can't be played in official formats, you can definitely still play them in kitchen table and for fun games! There's a funny thing mentioned above that one of the regularly available starter decks (Jinx) is now technically illegal because of these bans since it contains one of the banned cards. However, precedent is usually that if you don't change the deck at all it'll be legal still.
Since this is riftbound's first bans, we don't know if they'll be unbanned any time soon, but other card games I've seen sometimes goes through bans and unbans (or restrictions, such as you can only run one of in a deck or something) In Flesh and Blood, one of the other games I play, once a hero wins enough tournaments and gets enough points, it becomes a "legend" and their hero and main weapon is banned from standard play. In Magic there's also "anything goes" modes!
I doubt these cards would shoot up in value though, I legitimately have like 5 to 10 copies of called shot because they're so common. I remember in Magic when The One Ring was banned from Commander the prices dropped initially but I think it's been higher than ever now.
Sort of. Origins (the first set) is pretty much non-existent at this point. It's impossible to get, but they're reprinting them allegedly. We shall see. Spiritforged (the second set) looks much,...

Spiritforged (the second set) looks much, much better, but it's still not particularly great. At this point, towards the end of the current set, its availability is pretty low, or you pay super high prices for it due to scalping. But overall, Spiritforged was fine if you were there in the first month or so.
With set 3 coming in just over a month, I expect it to be even better supply-wise.
As for singles, Origins singles are way too expensive due to the lack of supply, but Spiritforged is completely fine. So if you're looking to get into the game, I recommend picking up a starter deck and maybe a few commons / uncommons as singles and build your collection from there.
I see, thanks for the breakdown! I actually have a fair amount of Origins but my friends were turned off by the impossible task of actually getting cards of their own, so we all just kinda bounced...

TIL that League of Legends has a trading card game.
When looking out of curiosity at where I could buy cards, I also found out there are two places centrally which sell them, including a long-running comic book store which (surprisingly) moved locations, and a place called Game Corner which opened up as a specialist trading card shop.
I haven't been to the centre of Bristol in a long while...

It's definitely fun! Supply is usually low unfortunately so it might be hard to get specific cards but I think the Jinx deck is usually in stock here in the States. The standard online way to play is a website called TCG arena where you can test out the decks but as a warning it's a generalized way to play TCG's online so it doesn't have any of the hard rules of riftbound specifically, you'd have to know the rules beforehand before jumping in. If you don't want to travel you can also look at TCGPlayer where you can buy and ship singles and sealed product and check market prices and such.

It's also definitely possible that a greater variety of formats with different ban criteria will pop up as the game matures, like with MTG.
I haven't been keeping up with this game. Have they sorted out the supply problems?
