Any good games that are like Ogre Battle?

I'm playing some old SNES Ogre Battle right now, has anyone made anything new in a similar style?

Grand Arms: March of the Red Dragon is looking to be an Ogre Battle-like game I'm following right now.

It's a hard genre to follow... Lots of games have been teased to mimic it and then disappear.

But overall it has the same spirit. And clearly takes inspiration from ogre battle.

Yes it does miss some nuance, but it's the closest we've got in 20 years! It takes a lot of Fire Emblem and Ogre Battle and mixes it up.

However, it is a fun game and I think it’s worth supporting the devs because they’re a pretty small studio and I anticipate their next couple of games will probably be getting closer to ogre battle.

If you're sticking to that era, here are some other strategy games i enjoyed. They'll need patches for English, and folks have uploaded pre-patched versions if you know where to look.

    SNES:

    • Langrisser (this exists in English, but it's better with a fan patch)
    • FEDA (you'll need a patch for English, plays similar to Fire Emblem)
    • Hiouden: Mamono-tachi Tono Critical (also needs a patch)
    • Galaxy Robo (patch, gameplay is closer to Fire Emblem)

    On Sega Genesis:

    • Shining Force II (closer to Fire Emblem)
    • langrisser II
    • Lord Monarch (patch)

Oathborne: Chronicle of Ruin was looking pretty neat a while back, and then the Dev went MIA.. https://youtu.be/INZINAU8DVM - that's their only trailer. It was very close, with more RPG elements...

Himeko sutori on steam appears to be a similar game to ogre battle. Currently 75% off. English isn’t the original language, and I haven’t had time to verify if it’s actually ogre battle similar. But thought I would mention it here in case anyone wants to do some research.

However, not really worth looking up, because even when I saw it last it was already 4-5 years since the last update.

Pretty disappointing. With how popular auto battler games became I can’t believe the studio who made ogre battle weren’t able to get a new game in the works.
