What should I (a total Minecraft noob) do in the Tildes Minecraft Server?
Hey everybody!
I joined the Tildes Minecraft server last week and had an absolute blast building my house. I've barely played any Minecraft before (only early-game wandering around and mining) and it was super fun to wander the town and see everyone's builds and to build my own house based on stuff I looked up online. Also the bit where part of my house started burning down and everybody online came to help put it out (I did not know how to put it out myself guys so y'all were lifesavers there) was unironically super fun.
However, my house is more or less finished for now, and since I'm not very experienced with Minecraft I have no idea what to do next. There are already tons of cool farms in the town (legitimately super impressed) but I don't know enough about the game to feel comfortable trying to fill any gaps there, and I certainly don't feel comfortable trying to gather resources in more difficult areas like the Nether or The End given my extremely low skill level (others can attest I was repeatedly killed by the same skeleton over and over on more than one occasion lol). So now I'm wondering... what do I do next?
In a singleplayer game I'd just look up what my options are online, but since this is a multiplayer server it feels more like something I should ask the community about. What can I contribute to the server as a total noob? What are things that I can do that won't interfere with other people's projects or get ruined by me not having the experience with Minecraft to implement it properly? Is there anything that people are really itching to have done that is within my skillset?
In addition to this, any more general advice about how to play the game, particularly in a multiplayer setting like this, is super appreciated. Everyone I've chatted with on the server has been super nice and I'm really loving the environment y'all have created.
Also unrelatedly can someone please tell me how the public transit works. I do not know how to ride it lol.
I also was wondering whether there's any dedicated space to discussing and planning things on this server yet, like a Discord server or something. Obviously tildes itself exists, but I figure someplace for more transient discussions and planning would also be handy and I wondered if someone had already made one.
I've not joined the server yet, got stuck in other games, but here are some ideas for activities:
Are there any massive projects underway where an extra pickaxe would help? Either community or personal. Aka is someone digging a 200x200 hole to bedrock, or demolishing an ocean monument, etc.
Is there a minigame/activity area? Or do you have any idea for one? Races (boat, horse, elytra) are always nice, and they can be as simple or as complex you want. Also allows you to practice decorations and building with low stakes.
You mentioned that farms already exist, so this probably doesn't apply with a lot of community farms available, but setting up some simple farms is also a good way to learn the redstone mechanics
Lastly, build things! You have a house, but do you have a castle? A haunted witch house? An ultra-modern beachside manor?
Granted, I struggle to build just for the sake of building, so that last bit wouldn't work for me. But I had an amazing time recreating Riverwood a few years back, doing my best to tell the story of a village, rather than just having empty shells

Ah that makes sense, I think I didn't know there were minecarts provided or how to get in one so I was confused, thanks.
You can usually find a chest nearby with minecarts, hopefully we can keep those stocked. A lot of work has been put into the underground, it's kinda awesome.
There definitely is one in progress, I've seen someone (I think Bauke?) working on it near the moss farm (there's a book with coordinates for various farms by the map in town). Idk if any of them have silk touch but that'd be where I'd look first.
It's in town, southeast corner, the aboveground rail has a stop there.
Both of these are available in town near the map, opposite the cows and chicken-farm.
Not anymoreeee :p we built a new one and cleared out the old one - new one is roughly next to the wool farm!

Don't knkw when I will be on the server again, but I am planning/trying to create some group of more active players and working on some bigger projects. Like highways, ports, ships, castles etc.
How active is the discord you'd say? I ask because I'm kinda enjoying the server without needing to keep up to date on a discord etc. Just a Tildes post every once in a while & a notice or two in the town square. Wondering if I'm already missing out on stuff because I'm not on it, or if it's just a handful of people on the discord just yet :)
Pretty dead :D or minimal activity. It's possible it's more alive when I am asleep as I am EU based.

Nowadays Mojang has made it easier than ever to make your own story in game. You could get a bunch of written books (book, ink sac, and feather to craft it) and write "diary entries" for your story, or chapters, or write clues, notes, etc to have other players connect the dots of a mystery you came up with.
Idk if that's up your alley, but writing is fun for some people, and Minecraft allows you to actually build the world the story takes place in.
