Also, to answer the questions: YES, this very much is Classic Plus in everything but the name. I am convinced, and I will 100% be playing it (whenever my 2-month-old allows...).

My guess: this is a public test, and some of those things may eventually be incorporated into some kind of permanent server type.

As someone who only started playing in Cataclysm, the idea of a "Classic but different" is appealing because that would mean starting out with everyone else in a game that is not entirely solved.

I've been spending a lot of time lately on Turtle WoW, it's essentially a Vanilla+ private server and has been for years now.

I'm consistently amazed at the new shit I keep finding; fleshed out areas, solid class changes, new skills (Survival) and even new races (Goblins for horde, High Elves for Alliance, as is proper). I've even been playing "Slow and Steady", which halves kill XP for a more slowly paced game (this is optional).

If you don't feel like giving Activision your money, it's worth checking out.

I am very aware of Turtle WoW, and I think is pretty great. One of the main reasons why I don't play Turtle WoW is laziness because I'm very used to my addons, and as I understand addons for Blizzard WoW don't really work on private servers. I'm also scared of private servers going away, especially increasingly high-profile pservers that take money and kinda put Blizzard to shame like Turtle WoW. I may play it eventually.

As for servers going away, it can definitely happen. That said, I don't worry about it much; I've been playing WoW going on 20 years now and my interest has waxed and waned, characters started, leveled, geared and forgotten. At this point, every character I ever started on Retail/Classic WoW is lost to me, as I don't give that company money anymore, so it is what it is.

At the risk of sounding cheesy, it's not the characters or the gear, but the adventure and friends we made along the way.

I don't think anyone I used to play WoW with plays the game anymore. I didn't play either, only came back this year. Is there a lot of people in Turtle WoW? How social is the game?

I play regular hardcore with my friends, but TWoW on my free time. I fell in love with the world, not the gameplay, and TWoW is the only server expanding on that initial WC3 story.

There's two servers that seem to run between 5000-7000 players each, the community is friendly and helpful, generally less concerned about the gear treadmill and crushing raids. There's a pretty big hardcore population, which has various limitations (can't group with them as a normal player, for instance), but they stick around and will help you out with kills and the like, but since they're always dying and restarting, there's lots of people at lower levels (Alliance is actually too crowded).

It's all free of course, so you've lost nothing but a bit of your time if you try it and hate it.

I don't play a ton (not like I did when I was 20) but pop in from time to time when I'm feeling that WoW itch, so it's nice that I can keep it casual and not worry about being left behind. I have two little kids, a wife and a house to run, so it's nice that I can just pop in whenever and not worry about keeping up a sub.

Re: the rest of your post, definitely agree that it seems like carefully experimenting with an idea of Classic+. The end of the video also signals as much when he "accidentally" shows images from Gnomeregan, Scarlet Crusade, and Karazhan Crypts (he's pretty funny lol)

I only played Classic vanilla as that's the only version of the game that I didn't actually play back in the day (I didn't get to 60, didn't even know English). But I played the crap out of BC, Wrath, and Cataclysm, so don't really care about those versions of classic. But yes, I'm with you! Definitely going to try this one out!

You can edit the title as you see fit.

        Thanks ;)
